President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducted a videoconference with the Chairperson of the Parliament, cabinet ministers, high-ranking officials of a number of ministries and departments and khyakims of the regions and Ashgabat. Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on the results of the business trip to Afghanistan undertaken on the instructions of the Turkmen leader.
The Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs reported that a meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai had taken place during the trip to Kabul. A letter of the President of Turkmenistan inviting the leader of the friendly neighbouring country to take part in the opening ceremony of the Turkmen section of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway had been handed over during the meeting.
Also, meetings with the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan had been held to discuss key aspects of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in the particular areas. Priority issues of Turkmenistan-UN cooperation, including in the context of providing assistance to Afghanistan and concerting global efforts to establish peace and stability in the Afghan land, were discussed during a meeting with Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Jan Kubis.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs informed that meetings with representatives of the Turkmen diaspora in Afghanistan and members of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens had been held. Vice Premier S. Toilyev reported in detail on the measures taken to prepare for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which would take place in our country in 2017. The Vice Premier informed that the sports media forums would be organized in Ashgabat in June and November this year as part of the preparatory work for the V Asian Games. Representatives of the media from over 30 countries are expected to participate in the forums. A delegation of Turkmenistan will take part at the invitation of the Olympic Council of Asia in the IV Asian Games, which will take place in Incheon, the Republic of Korea this year. Turkmen athletes will perform in seven events of the prestigious competitions. The ceremony of handing over the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia from Incheon to Ashgabat will be held during the closing ceremony of the IV Asian Games.
The report also covered the preparation of Turkmen athletes for the 27th Summer Universiade, which will be held in Kazan, the Russian Federation on July 6-17. Turkmen students will perform in ten events of the sports tournament.
