Turkmen-Turkish top-level talks to be held in Ashgabat

Turkmen-Turkish top-level talks are to be held in Ashgabat on May 30. President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul has arrived in the country for a state visit for this purpose.

Regular meetings between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Abdullah Gul vividly illustrate the dynamic development of interstate cooperation. The leaders of the two countries, who have stated the principled position to conduct the goodwill of the fraternal Turkmen and Turkish peoples, set the tone for a highly constructive dialogue.

Turkey and Turkmenistan show the mutual interest and willingness to bring traditional partnership to a higher level, giving it new incentives to develop based on the experience of joint work, the tremendous economic and resource potential and the achievements of complementary national economies.

The foundation for sustained development of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation is the solid legal framework, including documents signed at the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels. Joint projects are successfully implemented, joint ventures and affiliates of Turkish companies operate effectively in Turkmenistan, economic and trade relations are strengthened which is best evidenced by increasing bilateral trade.

Turkish companies have proved to be dependable partners over many years of work in Turkmenistan in such areas as the construction of important industrial, social and cultural facilities, apartment houses, recreational centres and facilities for rapidly developing tourism and recreation industry in Turkmenistan.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Abdullah Gul are expected to harmonize views on a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation during the meeting in Ashgabat. The countries that have the common history and traditions attach great importance to humanitarian cooperation that has been filled with a qualitatively new content in key spheres, such as culture, education and science. Scientists from the two countries participate in science conference held in Turkey and Turkmenistan, the Days of Culture and fine and applied arts exhibitions are organized on a regular basis and concerts with the participation of cultural and art workers of the two countries are arranged.

Today, hundreds of Turkmen young people study at higher educational institutions in Turkey, and a number of Turkmen-Turkish schools and the Baskent training centre effectively operate in Turkmenistan. The International Turkmen-Turkish University that has established a reputation of being the centre of training highly qualified specialists since its opening is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in Turkmenistan. Evidence of this will be the ceremony of laying foundation stone of the new University building which will be a new architectural attraction of white-marble Ashgabat.

It should be noted that the principled position of the two friendly countries, working toward the promotion of partnership, largely determines the success of the talks in Ashgabat that will certainly be a reference point for a qualitatively new stage in the history of bilateral relations.

Mutual intent to enlarge and fill long-term successful cooperation with a new content is reflected in the solid package of documents to be signed during the talks in Ashgabat that will significantly expand the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.
