President of Turkmenistan conducts a videoconference

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducted a working videoconference meeting with the Vice Premiers, the khyakims of the regions and Ashgabat and other high-ranking officials. The agenda focused on current issues of Turkmenistan’s domestic and foreign policies, the objectives in the social sphere and the agricultural sector and the progress in implementing the national programmes.

Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported to the Turkmen leader about the good news that had come from New York (US). Turkmenistan was elected a Vice-President of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly with the unanimous support of 193 UN State Members.

Turkmenistan has been elected a Vice-President of the global forum three times in recent years, which testifies to the high international prestige of our country.

The reports on the current situation in agricultural fields in the regions were presented during the videoconference. It was reported in particular that one million tons of grain had been gathered throughout the country. Seasonal agricultural activities in cotton plantations were carrying out these days. The information on the measures taken to develop industrial infrastructure in the regions and the progress in construction in the Avaza national tourism zone was presented.

Noting that grain growers of the country had achieved great success, having reaped one million tons of grain, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov heartily congratulated everyone on that significant event. Touching upon the ongoing harvesting campaign, the Turkmen leader emphasized with dissatisfaction the low pace of harvesting in some regions as well as the need for the more effective use of existing opportunities to achieve higher labour productivity. The Turkmen leader instructed to monitor the work of grain elevators and grain storage facilities.

The President signed the document approving the proposal to appoint A. Berkeliev Esenguly Etrap Deputy Khyakim for the agricultural sector (Balkan Velayat).

The information on the measures taken to optimize activities of cultural institutions, promote the mass media and prepare for the upcoming events was presented during the videoconference.

The issues related to the expansion of the boundaries of Ashgabat and its development, the procedure for joining new districts to the capital and re-registration of the administrative and territorial units and the work on the development and improvement of modern infrastructure in the territories joined to the capital were discussed during the videoconference. The map of Ashgabat that displayed the plans for further development the capital in line with the latest urban development trends was presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration.

Approving the plan for the events to be held in our country from June 18 to 26 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to hold them in a proper manner, emphasizing that Turkmenistan remained in solidarity with the global community in waging an uncompromising struggle against illegal drug trafficking and drug abuse.

Other issues were considered and the decisions were adopted during the videoconference.
