President of Turkmenistan attends the opening night of Gyorogly

The opening night of Gyorogly was held at the Ruhiyet Palace in Turkmenbashi town during the Week of Culture in Balkan Velayat. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, whom the astounding growth of the national culture with opera as its integral part revived on the initiative and under the auspices of the Turkmen leader is associated with, was an honorary spectator.


The audience included the cabinet ministers, the heads and deputies of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, public organisations, diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, media, prominent cultural and art workers and students. Among the guests were foreign participants of the events taking place during the Week of Culture on the shore of ancient Hazar.

Those present greeted President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with standing ovation. Cordially greeted the spectators, the Turkmen leader had a seat.

The new production tells the story of the national hero, singer and musician Gyorogly. The plot of the opera shows the hero growing up until his heroic feats and spiritual force and the poetic was recognised by the people. Gyorogly stands as the defender of the people and at the same time the lyrical hero – the singer of love and beauty.


It should be noted that about 200 artists are engaged in the production. They are the prominent artists of Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre and the soloists – young teachers and students of the Turkmen National Conservatoire, the Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus of the Conservatoire. Colourful setting and bright costumes make the production spectacular and expressive.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appeared on the stage after the opera had ended.

Cordially congratulating those present on the national holiday – the Day of Cultural and Art Workers celebrated widely and solemnly in our country since 2009, the Turkmen leader said that the past years had been marked by the renewal of particular aspects of the national culture. The Turkmen leader mentioned the establishment of the State Symphony Orchestra in February of 2008 and the production Shasenem and Garib in June in the same year by way of example. The Turkmen leader noted that the State Circus resumed its work in April 2010, and the art town in Ashgabat was built and opened in September 2011.

The President said that much attention in our country was given to the modernisation of material and technical resources of the cultural sphere, noting that the decision to allocate US$ 50,000 to each theatre in the country had been adopted in appreciation of the profound contribution of cultural and art workers to the progress of the Turkmen state and society and with the view of strengthening the material and technical base of Turkmen theatres.

Cordially bidding farewell to the artists and spectators, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left the Ruhiyet Palace.
