The Democratic Party of Turkmenistan was created on December 16, 1991 shortly after declaring state independence. The social and political principles which have emerged at the early stage of independence – a critical period of our modern history underlie the fact that these two dates came one after.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov notes that independence as the revived destiny of the nation has given an impetus for the emergence of a political force capable of ensuring stability and civil accord in the state and society, instilling confidence in their great future, revival of their Motherland and protection and inviolability of the age-old traditions in the hearts of people and forming a new, democratic and legal world outlook in the Turkmen society.
During its creation the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan has been a great political force and remains so in our present epoch of new Revival and great reforms. The proper fulfilment of ambitious tasks entrusted to it over the past 20 years has enhanced even more the role of this political party in life of the society and its credibility.
The Democratic Party of Turkmenistan that became some kind of democratic organisation continuously enhancing its influence and credibility with the society, has aimed its activities have aimed to meet modern challenges of innovative development of the country, diversify and modernize basic sectors of the national economy, actively introduce market relations, implement the historic programmes for the development of the state and society, the education and health systems, science and culture, sport and tourism, promote the economic and social reforms and facilitate spiritual revival and stability in the new historical epoch.
Noting that political and public organisations should develop new forms of work and establish contacts with people, optimize the methods of work, act more decisively and keep abreast of the times, the Turkmen leader said the multi-party system would be created in the future. Therefore, the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan should be in constant search and be at the forefront in all spheres. The road will rise to meet the one who walks it – this philosophy must become our conviction. We must not rest on our laurels, emphasized Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, be on the move and in creative search and move forward on the path leading to the heights of society.
