President of Turkmenistan receives IRA Minister of Commerce and Industry

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss key aspects of multifaceted bilateral cooperation during a personal meeting, the guest conveyed the congratulations on behalf of President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and expressed the best wishes for the New Year 2012 to the leader and people of Turkmenistan.

Thanking for the hearty congratulations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished the Afghan people new outstanding achievements in establishing lasting peace and stability that served as a guarantee for economic revival of the neighbouring country. It was noted that standing for the restoration of civil accord in Afghanistan, Turkmenistan intended to fully support international efforts to ensure a prosperous life for the Afghan people using political and diplomatic, trade and economic and humanitarian means.

Expressing profound gratitude for providing all-round support and new approaches to addressing Afghanistan related problems that had been reflected in the important international initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi emphasized that Afghanistan highly evaluated the peace-building policy of neutral Turkmenistan standing as an essential factor for maintaining geopolitical balance, peace and stability in the central Asian region.

The leader of the Turkmen state and the IRA Minister of Commerce and Industry reaffirmed that the two countries were committed to promoting friendly and good neighbourly relations and stood ready to enhance the fruitful interstate dialogue which had been offered new incentives to develop in recent years. Exchanging views on the prospects of bilateral partnership, the Turkmen leader and his guest mentioned the trade and economic sector, the power industry, transport infrastructure development, the cultural and humanitarian and other spheres in which cooperation opened up vast opportunities as its priority fields.

A focus of discussion was cooperation in the strategic fuel and energy sector, particularly in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project which was of vital importance to the region.

Upon concluding the meeting, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and IRA Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi expressed firm belief that the constructive interstate dialogue based on the centuries-old traditions of friendship and good neighbourliness between the Turkmen and Afghan peoples would be successfully continued.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan Mr. Mohammad fazil Saifi attended the meeting.
