As is known, a pilot-cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko born in Turkmenistan received the Star of President Order during his personal meeting with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. O. Kononeko took the National Flag of Turkmenistan, the President’s colours and a small Turkmen carpet with him as the sacred symbols of the motherland to the international space station in orbit. After he returned, the cosmonaut passed these things to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Currently, Oleg Kononenko is fulfilling his mission at the international space station. He wished a happy New Year to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan from there:
“Dear fellow citizens,
I am very glad of the chance congratulate you and expressed best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.
Turkmenistan recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of independence. The year 2012 begins a new decade in the modern history of the country – the history filled with the dynamic rhythms of creation and bright colours of the flourishing life of people.
When I am looking at Earth from space, I can see the geographic borders of my motherland. I always feel deep gratitude to the country where I spent my childhood and adolescence, to my kind-hearted and diligent people.
I expressed my hearty wishes of good health and wellbeing in the year 2012 to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. I can guess that heading the state is a much more difficult task than operating a spacecraft. You cope with this task perfectly well. Esteemed Mr. President, I would like to wish you every success in the presidential elections.
I would like to wish all people of Turkmenistan good health, happiness and joy to every family in a new year.
Let the hearth give much light and warmth to everyone and many people gather together for a festive dastarkhan.
Let the pride and fame of the country be enhanced!
Happy New Year!”
