An exhibition featuring the works by Turkmen artists that presented a retrospective panorama of modern Turkmen painting closed in Moscow. The State Museum of Oriental Art has hosted the exhibition “Painting of Turkmenistan. The Melodies of the Turkmen Soul” for three weeks.
Sixty paintings by fifty nine authors chosen for the exhibition in Moscow most vividly reflected the picturesque development history of the national fine art in the late 20th century – the early 21st century. The best illustration for the success of the Turkmen art exhibition is the reviews of the prominent representatives of creative and scientific circles from Moscow.
Masut Fatkulin, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Confederation of Unions of Artists:
The exhibition “Melodies of the Turkmen Soul” produced a vivid impression on me. Several dozen of paintings provided a capacious, but very expressive narration about the development trends in Turkmen painting for over half a century. Also, the works reflected the important historical events of the nation and the life of contemporaries, remarkable toilers of the Turkmen land. Their portraits are full of magnanimity and subtle psychology.
What pleases most of all is that the traditions of realist art are maintained worthily in Turkmen fine art, which makes it possible to put the deep philosophical and social meanings in artistic images.
Ivan Golubnichy, Secretary of the Union of Writers of Russia, Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation:
Certainly, the Turkmen art exhibition became a remarkable and significant event in the cultural life of Moscow. The paintings it presents carry the tremendous creative potential and the powerful charge of vitality and confidence in the bright future of the Turkmen people. A strong connection with life, love to work and native nature, adherence to traditional family values, distinct national origins and contemplative perception of the world – these are the major messages of these works. The exposition is distinguished for the riot of colours and coloristic contrasts, deep psychological insight of images and rich emotional content.
Turkmen artists enthusiastically and naturally depict various aspects of life of their country, and their works taken together provide an amazingly coherent picture. The spiritual unity of the nation shows through the unique individuality of each artist. Russian art connoisseurs got a truly wonderful present.
Nadezhda Dubova, anthropologist, Doctor of History:
I believe that I am very fortunate that scientific interests let me cast in my lot with Turkmenistan for a long time. I was lucky to work hand in hand with an outstanding scientist and archaeologist Viktor Sarianidi in the Turkmen land for many years.
No matter how narrow his specialty is, a scientist cannot but dive into the history of the cultural development of the country under study. In this regard, the deep fundamental linkage between contemporary fine art of Turkmenistan and the immense creative heritage of centuries-old cultural national traditions cannot go unnoticed.
During my frequent visits to Ashgabat or Mary I have always watched with admiration at the museum collections of Turkmen paintings. I am glad that many Moscow citizens got a splendid opportunity to get acquainted with the treasury of Turkmen art. Let’s hope that increasing cultural contacts between the two countries will give us more feasts of acquaintance with picturesque masterpieces from Turkmenistan.
Aleksander Sedov, General Director of the State Museum of Oriental Art:
The State Museum of Oriental Art hosts the art exhibition of Turkmenistan not the first time. In 1971, it hosted the exhibition “In the land of Turkmeniya” that was a notable event in the cultural life not only of Moscow, but also of the country. More than forty years later we had an honour of presenting the works by Turkmen artists to Moscow connoisseurs of the beautiful. We are pleased to have an opportunity to show the works by renowned Turkmen painters to the Moscow public.
Fine art of Turkmenistan is a unique phenomenon in the history of 20th-century art. The bright school of art has been formed there. It is based on the multifaceted historical and cultural heritage of this country, unique natural environment and close ties with the Russian artistic traditions. However, the main thing is the soul of the people, open, hospitable, friendly, courageous and gentle. We believe that the exhibition became another step towards fostering a cultural dialogue between Russia and Turkmenistan and contributed to enhancing our good neighbourly relations.
