President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated water industry workers, rural workers and citizens of Turkmenistan on the holiday “A Drop of Water – A Grain of Gold”. In his congratulatory message the Turkmen leader said, “Water has been considered the sacred source of life and abundance from ancient times, because it awakens nature to life, turning our endless steppes and valleys into the blooming land of plenty. Therefore, our ancestors knew the value of water and cherished it, comparing each drop with a grain of gold.

Respectful attitude of the Turkmen people to water as a source of life is vividly illustrated in the proverbs: The beauty of the earth comes with water, Water is the mother of a harvest, The earth with water is a flower garden, without water is the desert.

For many centuries our ancestors have developed the high standard of farming and worked much and hard so as to improve the habitat in arid climatic conditions, turn their pastures into lavish green meadows.

This is fully confirmed by wells, kyariz, canals, water storage reservoirs, rivers, lakes, canals and other water facilities built by the Turkmen people in the steppes, hilly and smooth terrain.

With the view to effectively and efficiently use of every drop of life-giving water, we have implemented the strategic measures in recent years to protect water resources of the country, consistently introduce water efficient technologies to build water facilities and systems and adopt best practices and scientific advances. Vivid evidence for what has been said is the construction of many water treatment plants in all parts of our sunny land.

Moreover, large-scale work has been launched in the country to build new water-lifting stations and water storage reservoirs and increase the capacity of the existing facilities so as to improve water supply to settlements and agricultural lands and store water reserves.

Currently, the second stage of construction of the Turkmen Lake Altyn Asyr – the grandiose hydraulic facility – is in full swing. The well coordinated operation of collector drains makes it possible to discharge saline waters from agricultural lands throughout the country in the lake, which leads to the significant decrease in groundwater level, improvement of soil conditions, increased crop yields and enrichment of the flora and fauna of the Karakum Desert. Moreover, the creation of a new man-made lake in the centre of the Karakum desert - one of the largest deserts in the world - contributes to improving the ecological situation in the region.

The flowering towns and villages of the Motherland in the epoch of might and happiness, their transformation into blooming oases is vivid evidence for the abundance of water in our country and its effective use. Clean water uninterruptedly supplied to our homes, crystal jets of fountains in parks, along streets and avenues are the priceless treasures of the generous Turkmen land.

We will continue to carry out large-scale work to improve social and housing conditions of our people and optimize the activities in the national water sector.”

“Let the rivers in our sunny land be abundant in water, years be high-yielding and let every drop of water that felt down in our blessed land and became a grain of gold improve the welfare of the Turkmen people!”
