As is known, January 6, 1992 inaugurated a new period in the chronicle of bilateral relations based on the centuries-old political, trade, economic and cultural ties that date back to the time of the Great Silk Road when the territories of Turkmenistan and the Celestial Empire were the centres of world civilization, according to modern scientific data.

In the modern period Turkmen-Chinese cooperation are rapidly developing and has made great progress for 20 years. In modern times cooperation between Turkmenistan and China can serve as a brilliant example of well though-out and politically and economically balanced based on the experience accumulated over many centuries and the existing tremendous potential being implemented for the benefit and prosperity of the two friendly states and nations.

In his opening remarks Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Turkmenistan Mr. Xiao Qinghua congratulated and expressed best wishes on behalf of the Government and people of China to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan for the remarkable date – the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.

The diplomat noted that China attached considerable significance to promoting relations with Turkmenistan that it saw as a true friend and long-term strategic partner. Strengthening the dialogue of friendship and cooperation with the Turkmen state that pursues the progressive, constructive domestic and foreign policy under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is a critical aspect of the foreign policy strategy of the People’s Republic of China.

Multilevel Turkmen-Chinese contacts, including top level talks, marked a breakthrough in the interstate dialogue that has resulted in completing dozens of important joint projects. These include the ambitious project of the world’s longest gas pipeline between Turkmenistan and China.

An important factor in intensifying cooperation between our countries is sincere relations between President the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In this regard the diplomat underlined the significance of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the People’s Republic of China in late 2010 that had given powerful incentives to fruitful cooperation.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Turkmenistan Mr. Xiao Qinghua expressed belief that Turkmen-Chinese relations had a great future ahead. This conviction is based on the mutual willingness to intensify multifaceted partnership and the profound positive experience of cooperation accumulated for 20 years and reflected in dozens of important national and international projects.

Then cultural and arts workers of Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China performed the festive concert of friendship. The audience cordially and heartily welcomed the Chinese artists who performed folk musical compositions and popular songs.

The bright finale of the cultural action was the performance of the breathtaking Turkmen dance “kushtdepdi” by all the concert participants to the spectators’ applause.
