President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in the Cabinet of Ministers building where the Vice Premiers, the heads of the Mejlis and the military and law enforcement agencies and the khyakims of Ashgabat and velayats cordially greeted the Turkmen leader.
There Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Security Council at which the results of the presidential election were considered.
The floor was given to Chairman of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda of Turkmenistan O. Nyyazlyev who delivered the final election results.
Emphasizing that the election of the President of Turkmenistan held in a free and transparent atmosphere and in compliance with the national laws and the standards of international law, the Chairman of the Central Commission reported on the election campaign activities and announced the results of the voting.
Noting that the election of the President of Turkmenistan had drawn a wide response worldwide, O. Nyyazlyev reported on the conclusions and evaluations that the national and international observers had made on the preparation stage of the election campaign and the voting process.
According to the data, 96.24 percent of the electorate voted in Ahal Velayat, 96.15 percent – in Balkan Velayat, 96.46 percent – in Dashoguz Velayat, 96.43 percent – in Lebap Velayat, 96.94 percent in Mary Velayat and 98.42 percent – in Ashgabat. The voter turnout throughout the country was 96.70 percent, or 2,888.887 of 2,987.324 eligible voters.
According to the final election outcomes, 0.16 percent of the electorate voted for Kakageldi Abdyllaev, 0.19 percent – for Saparmyrat Batyrov, 0.28 percent – for Rejep Bazarov, 97.14 percent for Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, 0.06 percent – for Esendurdy Gayypov, 0.08 percent – for Gurbanmammet Mollanyyazov, 1.02 percent – for Yarmuhammet Orazgulyev and 1.07 percent – for Annageldi Yazmyradov.
The final election results were determined during the recent meeting of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda. In accordance with Article 51 of the Law of Turkmenistan on the Election of the President of Turkmenistan the Central Commission announced that a presidential candidate Gurbanguly Myalikgulyevich Berdimuhamedov had obtained an absolute majority of vote (97.14 percent) and recognized as the duly elected President of Turkmenistan.
On behalf of the members of the Central Commission for Election and Referenda O. Nyyazlyev cordially congratulated the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the election as the President of Turkmenistan and emphasized that the presidential election had become a landmark in the history of the country and demonstrated the unity and solidarity of the Turkmen people and their adherence to the chosen path of democratic development to the international community.
Expressing profound gratitude to those who had actively contributed to preparing for and holding the election, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed O. Nyyazlyev to thoroughly analyze the organizational activity and the course of the preparations and election and submit the proposals to improve the election procedures and bring them in line with international standards in case the technical shortcomings had been revealed. These proposals will be thoroughly considered, and if necessary the amendments and additions will be introduced to the laws of Turkmenistan.
