Nationwide celebrations in the Turkmen capital
On February 19, the friendly and solidary people of Turkmenistan celebrated one of the greatest and most favorite national holidays, the National Flag Day that embodies state independence, unity, humanism and neutrality of the country.
“The Flag was introduced as one of the major national symbols guaranteeing the integrity of the Fatherland, statehood and the right to self-determination 20 years ago, on February 19, 1992 in our country recognized as a sovereign state by the world community,” said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory address to the people of independent Turkmenistan.
The apotheosis of the nationwide celebrations was the bright show that took place at the Ashgabat Stadium in the southwest of the Turkmen capital. The ceremony of opening the 20,000-seat stadium took place recently with the participation of national leader. The cabinet ministers, deputies of the Mejlis, the heads and officials of diplomatic representations and missions accredited to our country, Turkmen ambassadors to foreign countries, representatives of public organisations, Turkmen and foreign journalists, the elders, young Turkmen citizens and numerous guests gathered there.
The flags of Turkmenistan were flying in the wind. Children’s dance groups, folk ensembles from the five regions of the country, students with green banners were standing in the sports arena. Green flags were everywhere – thousands of spectators were holding flags thus demonstrating their love and respect to this state shrine. A joyful and festive atmosphere reigned everywhere.
The fanfares announced the beginning of the festive performance. The big white letters “BAYDAK-2012” appeared in the lower sector of the ‘living’ screen. They didn’t disappear until the performance was concluded. The National Flag and Emblem of Turkmenistan, the sacred symbols of statehood were depicted in the upper sector. In the centre of the emerald field young people dressed in golden costumes with flowers in their hands formed the number “XX” that marked this year’s anniversary of the creation of the National Flag.
The magnificent melody of the National Anthem was soaring above the huge bowl of the stadium. The singers’ voices blended with the spectators’ voices into the powerful chorus symbolizing the indissoluble unity and solidarity of the nation. Hundreds of colourful balloons shimmering with all colours of the rainbow were flying upwards. At that moment the feeling of happiness and pride for the Motherland was wrapping everyone who had come to the Ashgabat Stadium on that day.
The congratulations to the Turkmen people on the National Flag Day and the remarkable date that coincided with the national holiday, the re-election of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the second term were heard. Time has showed that the choice the Turkmen people made five years ago became a truly momentous for the country inaugurating the new historical epoch associated forever with the national leader, the architect of the policy of progressive reforms and changes.
To the strains of solemn melody hundred of students were carrying the national flags of Turkmenistan and girls were standing to form the letters “BAYDAK”.
Children’s groups from Ashgabat who embodied the triumph of sovereign development and the epoch of new reforms in their bright performance joined in the festivities. Joyful songs glorifying the Flag, blooming homeland and happy and peaceful life of independent neutral Turkmenistan were heard above the bowl of the stadium.
A bright performance with the participation of Turkmen athletes who were demonstrating their sportsmanship was unfolding to the stirring melody on the sports arena. As is known promotion of sports and physical training is a key aspect of the policy of the Turkmen state and of special concern to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who is an ardent supporter of a healthy lifestyle, sports and physical training.
Standard bearers coming from four sides of the sports arena formed circle. The depiction of the huge flag symbolizing the indissoluble unity and solidarity of the Turkmen people, their adherence to the glorious ancestors’ precepts and aspirations for a bright future was unfolding inside the this circle.
Turkmen dzhigits riding wonderful Ahalteke horses appeared on the sports arena. Each of them was carrying a green banner. The priceless heritage of national and international value, the legendary ‘heavenly horses’ aroused admiration of the spectators.
Best artists and artistic groups from all over the country were performing the spectacular show on the sports arena. The kaleidoscope of performances of numerous amateur and professional artists presenting the unique and diverse arts of Mary, Ahal, Lebap, Balkan, Dashoguz was unfolding before the eyes of the enchanted spectators. Creative enthusiasm of Turkmen artists, their heartfelt call for new victories and accomplishments for the benefit and prosperity of the nation served as the hymn of the epoch of great reforms, a manifestation of the unity of Turkmen citizens around their national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a bright symbol of prosperity and wellbeing of the beloved Motherland. The artists’ joyful elation was communicated to the spectators, and each performance was rewarded with the storm of applause.
