President of Turkmenistan pays official visit to Turkey

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for the two-day official visit to the Republic of Turkey in the afternoon on February 28. The Chairperson of the Mejlis, cabinet ministers and heads of ministries and department bade farewell to the Turkmen leader at the Ashgabat International Airport.

A few hours later the President’s airliner landed at the Ankara Esenboga Airport decorated with the national flags of the two friendly countries. Minister of Economy of the Republic of Turkey Zafer Caglayan, Ankara Governor Alaaddin Yuksel and other officials met the President of Turkmenistan at the airport. They cordially greeted the distinguished Turkmen guest on behalf of the President of the Republic of Turkey.

The Turkmen young people who study in Turkey and cultural workers who have arrived in Ankara a day before to participate in the cultural actions in the framework of the visit programme cordially greeted the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the airport.

Then the Turkmen leader headed to the hall for official delegations where he had the brief talks over a cup of tea with the Turkish officials.

The President’s cortege headed from the Ankara Esenboga Airport to his residence in the fashionable Sheraton-Lugal Hotel.

Ankara extended the hearty welcome to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The flags of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey flew as a symbol of the indissoluble bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two states and nations along the way of the President’s cortege. The current state and prospects of Turkmen-Turkish relations based on historical, spiritual and cultural affinities and equal mutually beneficial cooperation and Turkmenistan’s outstanding achievements on the path of progressive reforms are focus of much Turkish media interest. As is known these issues were spotlighted in the interview that the leader of the Turkmen state gave to the Turkish journalists on the eve of the visit.

It should be noted Turkmen-Turkish age-old relations based on the continuous good will and bonds of spiritual kinship will have been maintained in a worthy manner that in the present epoch. Today the dialogue between Turkmenistan and Turkey has been brought to a qualitatively new level and filled with a new content that is stipulated by the intention of the two states to implement fully the existing tremendous multifaceted potential for cooperation. Vivid evidence for it is the effectiveness of Turkmen-Turkish top level talks and meetings that have become regular in recent years. Mutual understanding and confidence between the leaders of the two states serve as an essential factor in this context.

Interstate partnership built on a long-term basis is now actively developing in the wide spectrum of fields, including the constructive political dialogue and effective cooperation in the trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural spheres.

In particular, trade and economic contacts between Turkmenistan and Turkey are characterized by the steady positive dynamics. The steady growth of bilateral trade convincingly evidences it. The Republic of Turkey ranks among Turkmenistan’s largest trade and economic partners. The two countries intensify business contacts: the well-known Turkish companies have been effectively operating on the Turkmen market for many years and collaborate on implementation of a number of large-scale projects, including the construction of industrial infrastructure, social and cultural facilities. In this context a critical role is assigned to the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Turkish Commission for economic cooperation and the Turkmen-Turkish Business Council.

Bilateral cooperation given the profound experience of cooperation, tremendous potential and new possibilities for fruitful collaboration in various spheres has the most favourable prospects. For example, in the tourism industry that has been given a powerful impetus to dynamically develop in Turkmenistan in the framework of the ambitious project of the Avaza national tourism zone, the world-class seaside resort on the Caspian seashore. As is known, this project initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arouses keen interest of the international business circles, including Turkish businessmen.

The package of bilateral documents aimed at promoting productive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey are expected to be signed after the talks. Thus, the traditionally friendly interstate dialogue will receive new incentives to develop.

This official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Turkey is to facilitate enhancement and intensification of Turkmen-Turkish relations successfully developing in the bi- and multi-lateral formats – within the authoritative regional and international organisations and structures.

On that day cultural workers and artists of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey performed a concert timed to the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Turkey on the stage of the Congress Centre of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ankara. The concert that turned into the bright music festival vividly symbolized the indissoluble ties of friendship and brotherhood that the two states and nations were continuously committed to.
