President of Turkmenistan receives UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received UKMinister of State for the Armed Forces, Mr. Nick Harvey.

The guest congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on the re-election for a second term. It was noted that for these years the United Kingdom had been interested in Turkmenistan’s achievements and the reforms taking place in the country the success of which had predetermined to a larger extent Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s victory in the recent presidential election. Mr. N. Harvey congratulated the leader of the Turkmen state on the remarkable dates, the 20th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom.

The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the policy of the Turkmen state was based on enhancement and promotion of wide international cooperation. In this context the United Kingdom that Turkmenistan built its relations with on mutual respect and confidence ranked among its major partners.

During the meeting the President of Turkmenistan and the UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmenistan-UK cooperation, exchanged views on a number of critical issues of regional and international politics. Highly evaluating the peace-loving policy of neutral Turkmenistan, Mr. N. Harvey emphasized that the Turkmen leader’s important peace-building initiatives to strengthen peace in neighbouring Afghanistan facilitated creating a climate of mutual confidence and stability in Central Asia.

The wide range of aspects of Turkmenistan-United Kingdom cooperation in various spheres, including the trade and economic sectors that the two countries attached primary significance to, was discussed. In this context the sides attached special significance to the visit of a high-level delegation of the Commerce and Industry Council to Ashgabat. There were any points of contact in the sports sector.

UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Mr. Keith Rennie Allan attended the meeting.
