President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received UNDP Deputy Regional Director and Director of the Regional Centre, Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Jens Wandel, who arrived in the Turkmen capital.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest underlined that the United Nations Organizations considered Turkmenistan as a reliable and responsible partner and demonstrated keen interest in the further development of efficient cooperation. Mr. Jens Wandel expressed the sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the support provided to the UN structures accredited in Turkmenistan and concern about bilateral cooperation that had gained new quality and content within the last years.
Greeting the guest, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that the foreign policy of Turkmenistan that recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s accession to the United Nations prioritized consolidation and expansion of cooperation with the UN. The Turkmen leader emphasized that actively collaborating with the world community, Turkmenistan would continue following the course of the positive neutrality, peacefulness and good-neighborliness.
During the meeting the President of Turkmenistan and Director of the Regional Centre, Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS discussed the priority aspects and prospects of traditional partnership that covers the wide range of areas, including the social and economic, legal, humanitarian spheres, education, health care, ecology and a number of other areas. The Turkmen leader and his guest exchanged their views on the opportunities for increasing efficient cooperation that was based on the rich experience of cooperation and its multi-aspect potential.

In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan and his guest discussed the issues related to development of the National Strategy on Climate Change of Turkmenistan, opening of the UN Interregional Center to address climate change issues as well as participation of Turkmenistan in the Earth Summit also known as Rio 2012 or Rio+20 in Rio de Janeiro.
