The course for fostering the ties of friendship and mutually beneficial partnership

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is arriving to Ukraine today.

In the modern historical period the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Ukrainian relations have reached new level that is vividly proved by increasing dynamics and mutual aspiration of the both countries for large-scale cooperation. In this regard, the both countries pay significant attention to the current visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Ukraine that is confirmed by its official status. Priority issues of bilateral cooperation and possibilities for further diversification will be discussed during the regular top level talks that will be a new important step along the progressive development of the constructive international dialogue.

The long-term partners, Turkmenistan and Ukraine demonstrate their intention to use the existing impressive potential of cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas in a most efficient way. It should be noted that within the last years the Turkmen-Ukrainian relations have received a new powerful impetus for development due to the invariable goodwill of the countries.

Talking about the prospects for the trading and economic cooperation, Turkmenistan and Ukraine have everything necessary to ensure the qualitatively new content satisfying the modern requirements, to increase the bilateral trade between the two countries, to enrich and diversify the content of business relations. Ukrainian companies, old and potential partners of our country, demonstrate keen interest in the dynamically developing Turkmen market with a favorable investment climate.

In this context, joint intergovernmental commissions and business forums play a significant role as an efficient mechanism to promote mutually beneficial economic contacts. It is notable that on the eve of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Ukraine, the third Turkmen-Ukrainian business forum was organized at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine in Kiev on March 12. It brought together the members of the Governments of the two countries, the heads of ministries and departments, representatives of government agencies and business circles of Turkmenistan and Ukraine, as well as over a hundred of the leading Ukrainian companies specializing in the energy sector, oil and gas industry, construction and transport industries, financial and banking sphere, the sphere of innovative technologies, agriculture, food industry, etc. Within the framework of an interested exchange of views on topical issues of cooperation, the forum participants expressed mutual readiness of the two countries to build up efficient cooperation in a wide range of areas.

A number of reports and speeches focused on various aspects and proposals to widen the volume and nomenclature of bilateral trade between the two countries, to intensify cooperation at the intergovernmental and business level, etc. were presented during the business forum. As expected, the proposals on the prospects for cooperation in the power industry aroused keen interest among the forum participants. A video film about Turkmenistan and Ukraine that allowed the forum participants to learn more about achievements of the two countries in the economic, social and cultural spheres was broadcast during the business forum.

A bright result of the business forum was signing the Agreement on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine that, undoubtedly will promote the further activization of the Turkmen-Ukrainian cooperation.

Upon conclusion of the plenary sitting, the bilateral talks and meetings between the members of the Turkmen delegation and their Ukrainian colleagues as well as businessmen of Ukraine continued the business part of the forum.

Today, Turkmenistan and Ukraine implement a number of joint projects in various spheres. Among them – a large-scale project of the regional significance on construction of a railway bridge Atamyrat-Kerkichi and construction of a road bridge across the Amu Darya River. Given the priorities of the state development of the two countries, cooperation in such spheres as high-technology economy and industry, fuel and energy, machinery construction, agriculture, transport and communications as well as tourism is very promising. The programme of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan envisages presentations of Ukrainian companies with participation of the heads of the two countries.

Due to the large-scale complex programmes on the social and economic development, the most favorable opportunities for establishing close and efficient cooperation between the regions of the two countries are opened up. Therefore, the delegation of Turkmenistan that arrived to Ukraine on the eve of the Turkmen leader's visit includes khyakims of velayats and Ashgabat. In particular, the velayat khyakims visited the administrative centers of Donetsk and Kharkov regions - the leading industrial centers of Ukraine with large industrial complexes in coal and chemical industry, power, ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, machinery construction, building materials, light and food industry, etc.

Studying the experience of Ukrainian partners in such priority areas as transport and communications and tourism, as well as a number of other industries, was the main goal of the visit to Odessa, which is a major economic, cultural and resort center of the country. The heads of administrative centers of Turkmenistan expressed keen interest in the experience of social and economic development of the capital of Ukraine - Kiev and its regional infrastructure.

Humanitarian cooperation has always been an important component of the bilateral relations. Widening the fruitful relations in the sphere of science and education, arts and culture, will undoubtedly strengthen the traditional dialogue of friendship, mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and peoples.

It should be noted that the presentation of the books Grandson, Who Makes Grandfather’s Dream Come True, which is based on documentary materials and dedicated to the life and the versatile activity of the Turkmen leader, Ahalteke Horses are Our Pride and Glory and The Flight of the Winged Horses by the Turkmen leader, which were translated into Ukrainian language, took place on the eve of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Kiev.

The members of the Government of the two countries, heads and representatives of ministries and departments, scientists and cultural workers, artists, writers, representatives of publishing houses, businessmen, journalists and local citizens attended the ceremony of presenting the books held in the conference hall of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine. Those speaking during the ceremony noted that the books by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov translated into various world languages, including Ukrainian provide readers with a unique opportunity to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, and its renowned traditions as well as to learn more about modern Turkmenistan running along the way of progressive changes.

A joint concert that brought together the masters of arts of Turkmenistan and Ukraine at the stage of T.G. Shevchenko Kiev Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet took place in the evening, on March 12 in Kiev.

Thus, covering a wide range of issues of the Turkmen-Ukrainian relations, the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Ukraine will contribute to further comprehensive development of constructive cooperation satisfying the mutual interests and reaching the qualitatively new level today.
