Ashgabat celebrated the 2012 Francophonie Holiday. The cultural event organized by the Embassy of the Republic of France in Turkmenistan with assistance of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Education of our country brought together the workers of culture and art, representatives of public organizations, schoolchildren and students studying the French language at the . This holiday is celebrated in Turkmenistan since 2004 providing a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the cultural heritage of France on the native language of the French people, who significantly contributed to the treasure house of the world culture.
The traditional programme of the festivity included the exhibition showcasing various informative materials dedicated to the history and culture of France, creative contests organized for young citizens of Turkmenistan who master the French language and aspire to demonstrate their talents in poetry, vocal, dramatic art and interpretation. Among them were the students of the French Cultural Center in Ashgabat. It is notable that the art contests were devoted to a prominent French writer Jean Jacques Rousseau, whose 300th anniversary of birth is widely celebrated all over the world this year.
It was noted that organization of the 2012 Francophonie Holiday in Ashgabat had been an important contribution to the further fostering and developing the traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and France, including in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.
