President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducts a working meeting to consider the issues of promoting the Turkmen sport

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Winter Sports Complex in Ashgabat, where the Turkmen leader chaired a working meeting to consider the issues on the further promotion of sports movement in the country, including hockey.

Vice Premiers in charge of the spheres that have their own hockey teams, including Burgut, Shir, Alp Arslan, and Oguz Khan, as well as the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Committee for Tourism and Sports of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting.

As is known, on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan the first hockey teams were created in the country. Within the Week of Health and Happiness held in Turkmenistan on occasion of the World Health Day, the teams participated in the President’s Hockey Junior Cup. The President of Turkmenistan stated that the winner would be trained at the basis of one of the world-known hockey teams. Defeating the Shir team in the final, the Burgut team of the State Committee for Tourism and Sports of Turkmenistan won the main prize.

During the meeting it was noted that a number of remarkable events took place within the Week of Health and Happiness held with great enthusiasm throughout the country. The Turkmen leader instructed the relevant officials to create hockey teams at the basis of other branches of the national economy and to provide the teams with all necessary equipment and conditions for development.

The Turkmen leader also underlined the necessity of developing an efficient system of material encouragement of sportsmen wining the prize places of the Olympic Games, prestigious international and national competitions, their coaches and other specialists. The President of Turkmenistan demanded the relevant officials to draft a Resolution allowing Masters of Sports and qualified coaches practicing sports at the contract basis.

Minister of Internal Affairs I. Imamkuliev reported on creation of the hockey team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Commenting on the report, the President of Turkmenistan gave specific instructions to the relevant officials to take all necessary measures to promote such a new for our country sport as hockey and create the modern conditions for training jockey teams for the competitions of various levels.

It was also underlined the necessity to draft an emblem and design of the outfit for each team.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is an ardent supporter and adherent of a healthy lifestyle giving the lead to the Turkmen citizens, and, first of all, youth, noted that the concern about health and prosperity of the nation had been prioritized by the state policy of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the Turkmen leader announced the decision to award the monetary prize of US$ 20.000 to the Burgut team winning the first place of the President’s Hockey Junior Cup taken place in the Turkmen capital on April 4-7, and to send this team to Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation to train at the basis of the Children’s School of the Ak Bars Hockey Club (Kazan) on April 20 – May 5, 2012 with the aim to increase the sportsmanship and exchange experience, and signed the relevant Resolution. Under the storm of applause of the meeting participants, the Turkmen leader awarded the monetary prize to the team coach S. Durdiev.

On behalf of the team the coach expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the tireless concern about youth, and providing them with wide opportunities for development. Thanking the Turkmen leader for the award, S. Durdiev assured President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that Turkmen hockey players would apply every effort to strengthen the authority of the Turkmen sport at the international arena.

Summing up the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan underlined once again that the Turkmen state would take particular concern about promotion of sports and health-improving movement, create all necessary conditions for it and keep this work under the rigorous control. In conclusion the Turkmen leader wished the meeting participants every success in their activity and left the venue.
