Have you ever watched a group of five horses of different colors pasturing on the roof of a house in the center of the city? One can see this unusual ‘picture’ in a quit region in Ashgabat. But the horses are made from plastic and the roof is a hall in the studio of the People’s Painter of Turkmenistan Saragt Babaev.

This art studio is known as “Saragt’s school’. Children, and all those, who love painting, but mainly the students of art schools, practice this art here free.

The studio’s yard represents a small outdoor gallery with the busts and sculptures of prominent composers, producers, thinkers, whose images are dear to the sculptor and continue living in stone, plaster cast and the memory of their creator. Among them are composer of genius Nury Halmedov, whose music excites listeners of various generations, Alty Karliev, a talented producer, who made art connoisseurs to speak about the Turkmen cinematography at the most prestigious festivals, whose wonderful films continue living, and are very popular in our times…

The master treats prominent Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly with particular concern. His role in the history and literature of Turkmenistan is priceless, the poet’s name is well-known all over the world. When Saragt was suggested to create a monument to Magtymguly to be erected in the Turkmenistan Park in Ankara, he already had an experience of sculpting the monuments to this outstanding figure in many cities, but made dozens of sketches before Magtymguly appeared embodying the greatness of the Turkmen people’s genius.

At present the sculptor works over another large project dedicated to Magtymguly. The virtual project represents a monumental figure of the poet and thinker located nearby the Path of Health, at the picturesque background of the Kopetdag Mountains. According to the project the Magtymguly’s sculpture would look like as if the poet sat down to have a rest in the foothills keeping a scroll with poems in his hands. It is planned to create a museum demonstrating the life and creative way of Mgtymguly inside of the grandiose monument. If the project is implemented, it will become a visit card of our country attracting more and more visitors wishing to learn more about Turkmenistan, the Motherland of such geniuses like Magtymguly to our country. Probably, by 2014, when the birth anniversary will be widely celebrated in our country, the citizens of Turkmenistan will have an opportunity to visit this museum.
