Towards the Turkmen Horse Day

The festivities to mark the Turkmen Horse Day celebrated each year on the last Sunday of April started throughout the country. The programme of the festivities included horse races and exercising of ‘the heavenly horses’, international forums, art exhibitions, sports competitions, the ceremonies of awarding the winners of art contests, and many other events.

The qualification round of the contest among carpet weavers, jewelers, painters, sculptors, who dedicated the works of fine, applied and decorative arts to Ahalteke horses, was held in the Exhibition Hall of the State Academy of Fine Arts on the eve of the holiday.

The solemn ceremony of opening of the exhibition showcasing the works presented at the contest announced by the Turkmen Atlary State Association among teachers, students and pupils of the State Academy of Arts and the Turkmen State Specialized Art School took place at the State Academy of Fine Arts. Prizes and valuable presents were awarded to the winners in a solemn atmosphere.

The museums in the Turkmen capital invite citizens and guests of Ashgabat to visit the thematic expositions “Horses – Turkmens’ wings”. These expositions became some kind of hymn to unsurpassed beauty, grace and nobleness of world-renowned ‘heavenly horses – the faithful companions and national pride of the Turkmen people symbolising the swift progress of our Motherland in the new historical epoch.

The exposition presenting thematic carpet canvases, pieces of national jewellery, wonderful pictures depicting Turkmen nature and ‘the heavenly horses’, harness dated back to the beginning of the XX century as well as the works of modern masters of the decorative and applied art is arranged at the Main National Museum of Turkmenistan.

Famous horse breeders, connoisseurs of horses, as well as popular poets, artists, singers, opera singers, and musicians took part in the ceremony of opening of the exposition.

The scientific and practical conference that focused on the issues of developing of the Turkmen horse breeding, equestrian sport, and depicting of ‘heavenly horses’ in the works of fine, decorative and applied art took place at the Main National Museum of Turkmenistan.

The Museum of Fine Arts organized the exhibition that presents the works of fine and graphic arts, ceramic articles and sculptures. These include the works created by the renowned Turkmen painters Ya. Annanurov, Ya. Bayramov, S. Meredov, A. Ataev, J. Jumadurdy, D. Djumadurdy, A. Taganov and others, who captured unsurpassed beauty of ‘the heavenly horses’ in their works.

A meeting of students of higher educational institutions with renowned horse breeders and trainers took place at the Turkmen Agricultural University. The University will organize another meeting with renowned horse breeders and trainers of the country under the motto “Heavenly horses – example of beauty” on April 28.

The exposition presenting the miniature sculptures of horses, the woks of fine arts, carpets and pieces of jewellery with the pictures of horses, pieces of traditional harness and other items will be opened at the President’s Museum of the National Cultural Centre on April 25. Art workers performed a concert to mark the coming holiday in the framework of the vernissage.

The festive event entitled “Honor to horses” will be arranged at the National Library of Turkmenistan on April 25. Another spectacular event – 30-kilometer horse racing will be held in the Ak Bugday Etrap in Ahal Velayat on the same day. On April 26, the International Equestrian Complex will host the show jumping. The final round of the contest of the works of fine, applied and decorative arts dedicated to Ahalteke horses will be held in the Exhibition Hall of the State Academy of Fine Arts on the eve of the holiday. The famous equestrian group Galkynysh will arrange a bright performance on April 26.

In the evening, popular singers, musicians and artists will perform a concert programme entitled “Horse – my wings” at the 10 Year of Independence Park.

A significant event of the programme of the Turkmen Horse Day celebrations includes IV International Conference “Turkmen Horses and the Art of World Horse Breeding”, which will take place in the conference hall of the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan on April 27-28, and II International Conference of the International Associations of Ahalteke Horse Breeding, which will take place at the International Equestrian Complex, and, which will bring together numerous guests including horse breeders, specialists and scientists from different countries of the world. Musical and signing performances will take place on the square in front of the monument to Polatly fast horse in Bikrova settlement and at the State Circus of Turkmenistan to mark the Turkmen Horse day.

The festive events dedicated to the Turkmen Horse Day will take place at the Ashgabat Equestrian Complex on April 28.

The concerts entitled “Horses are adornment of our holidays!” will be performed at the Ashgabat, Watan and Turkmenistan Cinema and Concert Halls to mark the Turkmen Horse Day on April 28.

The theatrical performances dedicated to Turkmen horses will be presented at the the main Drama Theater of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre, State Puppet Theatre, Alp Arslan Turkmen National Youth Theatre, Mollanepes Students Theater, A. S. Pushkin State Russian Theatre.

The main celebrations in honour of Turkmen horses will take place at the International Equestrian Complex on April 29. The final round of the contest The Horse of the Year will be held there. On that day best Ahalteke horse will compete in swiftness and agility for the President’s Prize in the regional equestrian complexes.

Numerous materials will be published in newspapers and journals, and the programmes about renowned horse breeders, horse trainers and of course, the main heroes of the festivities – wonderful Ahalteke horses will be broadcast on TV and radio.

Art and cultural workers will participate in festive concerts, which will be arranged on the square in front of the State Circus and at the cinema and concert centres in Ashgabat and on the main squares in the administrative centres of Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats in honour of Turkmen horses.
