Turkmenistan-UNESCO: cooperation to promote the unique heritage of the Turkmen people

Today, the Mukams Palace of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan hosted a song and music celebration dedicated to the inclusion of such nominations as “Turkmen embroidery art”, “Sericulture and traditional production of silk for weaving” and “Traditions of retelling the parables of Molla” into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Ependi".

Before the start of the solemn part, its participants viewed the exhibition in the lobby of the Mukams Palace, which presented various products created by the talent and diligence of national artisans, including Turkmen women, works of arts and crafts, national silver jewelry.

The event was opened by the literary and musical composition "Dünýä ýaň salýandyr türkmen mirasy" performed by the artists of the Alp Arslan National Drama Theater, which reflected the inseparable connection of the national heritage, originating from the depths of centuries, with the life of our people and modernity.

In the speeches of the participants of the celebration, it was noted that as a result of the successful continuation of the noble undertakings initiated by the Hero-Arkadag by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the consistent expansion of cooperation with specialized UN structures, in particular, with UNESCO - an organization for education, science and culture. It was stated that the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO is carrying out effective work in this direction.

As an illustrative example of this activity, it should be noted that last year, the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, was supplemented with such types of intangible heritage as “Turkmen art of embroidery”, “Sericulture and traditional production of silk for weaving” and “Traditions of retelling Parable of Molla Ependi.

As is known, on May 15 this year, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the director of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran, Ms. Golda El-Khoury, who arrived in our country on this occasion, and presented the head of state with relevant certificates.

It should be noted that this year is marked by the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's accession to the full membership of UNESCO. Over the years, a lot of joint work has been done, a lot of experience has been gained in cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, in the field of preserving historical heritage. The words of sincere gratitude were expressed to the Hero-¬Arkadag and Arkadaglu Serdar for their activities in this direction.

The speeches discussed the inclusion of Ashgabat in the network of UNESCO Creative Cities, as well as the ongoing work to include in the future other types of art and the unique traditions of our people in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The inclusion of the nomination "Sericulture and traditional production of silk for weaving" in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity indicates that as a result of comprehensive measures taken in the textile industry, including in the domestic sericulture industry, the centuries-old traditions of national daikhanism are successfully combined with modern experience.

The authoritative UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity has also been replenished with the nomination “Traditions of retelling the parables of Molla Ependi”.

In speeches on this topic, it was emphasized that our people, being open and cheerful, were known as admirers of jokes. At all times there lived people who knew how to skillfully tell about certain events, wits, and their records are available in various sources.

Masters of arts performed at the celebration, including the folklore and ethnographic dance ensemble of the cultural center "Dokmaçylar", famous vocalists of the country, the folklore group "Laçyn".

The performance of a group of comedians who performed "Ependi's Wits and Puns" aroused great interest among the audience.

At the end of the celebration, its participants adopted an Address to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
