Festive celebrations at the International Equestrian Sports Complex

Turkmenistan widely celebrated the national holiday – Turkmen Horse Day.

The festively decorated International Equestrian Sports Complex located in the picturesque foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains greeted the participants and guests to the holiday. The cabinet ministers, heads of the National Parliament, military and law-enforcement agencies, heads of the diplomatic representatives and missions accredited in our country, khyakims of Ashgabat and velayats, representatives of public organisations, journalists, the elders, people of the Turkmen capital and Ahal Velayat, as well as numerous guests gathered together at the International Equestrian Sports Complex to take part in the festivities.

Under the storm of applause President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed to the Presidential lounge.

The Guest of Honour – President of the Republic of Tatarstan R. Minnikhanov, who arrived in our country leading the governmental delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan to take part in the festivities on occasion of the Turkmen Horse Day widely celebrated in Turkmenistan on the last Sunday of April.

A wonderful Ahalteke horse Gozgan was presented to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan in token of respect and sincere friendship between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Tatarstan. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov handed over the passport of the graceful Ahalteke horse to the distinguished guest.

On behalf of the Turkmen horse breeders the beautiful Ahalteke horse Berkarar was presented to the President of Turkmenistan. Saddling up the horse, the Turkmen leader took a lap of honour. Executing all commands, Berkarar bowed to the admired spectators, who watched the show with unconcealed pleasure.

The Horse of the Year International contest for the most beautiful Ahalteke horse was summed up. Ten outstanding representatives of the Ahalteke breed – the thoroughbred elite stallions at the age of 3-10 years appeared on the arena.

The horses taken part in in the contest demonstrated their exterior and dynamic qualities and the ability to execute various commands. According to the jury, including horse breeders and workers of culture and art of Turkmenistan, famous scientists, experts in horse breeding from France, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and other countries, a wonderful horse – Hanburgut won the President’s Prize and the Challenge Cup as well as the title of the Horse of the Year.

The key to a car and the Challenge Cup were awarded to the jockey under the storm of applause of the audience. Other participants of this captivating and spectacular contest received valuable presents.

Then the horse racing, a traditional adornment of any Turkmen holiday since ancient times took place at the International Equestrian Sports Complex. Ahalteke horses demonstrated their speed, and dexterity in seven rounds. The best jockeys of the country competed for the prizes of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov - motor cars.

The most impressive was the 2000-meter races. Along with Turkmen riders, the jockeys from different countries, including Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, France, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Russian Federation competed for the main prize – a motor car and gold statuette of an Ahalteke horse. Gold-filled and silver statuettes were awarded to the jockeys won the second and third places respectively. Carpets depicting Ahalteke horses were awarded to the winners.
