Film fans and novice filmmakers attended film screenings organized in Ashgabat as part of the Central Asian short film competition «Shoot in 48 hours».
Filmmakers from Turkmenistan annually take part in a creative competition. This year, 18 short films were submitted from our country for the competition. The first viewers and participants of the competition were able to evaluate the videos of fellow countrymen and get acquainted with the film works of representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Films of representatives of Turkmenistan opened at the Ashgabat site. After viewing, the audience could discuss the films with the authors present in the hall, ask questions and share their impressions of what they saw.
Batyr Berdiyev, a member of the selection committee for the top 48 films, notes that this year culture and lifestyle became the basis for many short films by Turkmen film lovers.
In all plots, systems of relationships and values such as family, religion and nationality are closely intertwined. Particular attention was paid to relations between family members, both between parents and children, and between spouses.
After analyzing some film works, representatives of the film crews shared their experience of participating in the short film competition.
Many authors take part in it not for the first time, but there are also debutants with great hope for future success. And this is normal, because the best motivation is the main prize of the competition - the possibility of preferential education at the New York Film Academy.
According to the participants, one of the difficult conditions of the «Shoot in 48 hours» contest is the limited time. In just 2 days, scriptwriters, directors, video editors, cameramen and actors in the frame are trying to create a small movie with a deep meaning.
At the same time, at the start of the competition, the organizers announce special tasks, so that a pre-prepared script can simply «crumble» without corresponding to the given topic.
«For the first time I sent my film to the competition», says Ahmet Yusubov. – I want to thank the whole team, everyone who helped us in the filming process. Cinema is not my main profession, I studied in a different direction. But I really like to take my first steps in filmmaking. Our team did not have a pre-made script, although there was a concept that we adhered to. I hope there will be several winners from our country. Therefore, I wish you all good luck.
The winners of the 2023 Short Film Competition will be announced in September. In addition to the main nominations, the organizers report on possible additional categories, including a special jury prize. Selected films from Turkmenistan will also be shown at the venues of the countries participating in the project.
