As part of the preparations for the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the classic of Turkmen and world literature of the 18th century Magtymguly Pyragy, the «Turkmenfilm» Association named after Oguzkhan is launching a project to shoot documentaries about his spiritual heritage and influence on other cultures.
The first film group led by the young director Batyr Batyrov has already set off for the Astrakhan region, where much is connected with the name of the Turkmen poet and philosopher who visited these parts. According to sources, it was here that the first edition of Magtymguly’s poems in Russian was published in 1912.
At present, there is a monument to Magtymguly Pyragy in Astrakhan; a school built on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan in the village of Funtovo, Privolzhsky district, bears his name. The Russian side has prepared a large program for the film group from Ashgabat, which includes a visit to the village of Funtovo and communication with its old-timers, as well as filming at the Astrakhan State University named after V.N. Tatishchev.
It should be noted that preparations have already begun in the Astrakhan region for the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Pyragy, within which various events are planned, including round tables, conferences, poetry evenings, teleconference, etc.
The business trip of the second group of cinematographers under the direction of production director Maksat Gylyjov to the Republic of Azerbaijan is scheduled for late August - early September. Filming of documentary material will take place in various places associated with the name of Magtymguly Pyragy.
Azerbaijan has already held a number of events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Pyragy. Thus, in February of this year, a scientific and practical conference on the theme «Magtymguly Pyragy - an outstanding poet of world literature» and a literary evening of Magtymguly Pyragy were held in Baku, in which representatives of the scientific and creative intelligentsia, the media, as well as fans of the Turkmen poet and philosopher.
According to the «Turkmenfilm» Association named after Oguzhan, it is planned to send film crews to shoot documentaries about the great Magtymguly to Uzbekistan, Iran and Turkey.
