In honour of Memorial Day, an exhibition entitled «Sacred Memory» was organized at the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan. The exhibition exposition consists of two parts: the first is dedicated to the Ashgabat earthquake, the second to the Gokdepe battle.

The natural disaster that occurred on the night of 5th to 6th October in 1948, claimed the lives of more than 100 thousand people and destroyed the Turkmen capital. Despite the fact that 75 years have passed since that tragic incident, the memory of the relatives and friends who died that night is indelible. A special place in the exhibition is given to documentary photographs from the «Written Sources» repository. Photographs dedicated to the history of the city of Ashgabat are divided into three thematic groups: with views of Ashgabat before the earthquake, after the disaster and in the epoch of independence. Documentary photographs of the ruins of the city testify to the force of the tremors, which destroyed almost all the buildings of the capital. The Ashgabat earthquake caused great damage to historical monuments. Also shown here are photographs of the ruins of the Seyit Jemal- ad Din Mosque.

The heroism shown by our ancestors in the Gokdepe battle in 1881 while defending the freedom and independence of the people is written in golden letters in our history. Much time has passed since then, but the memory of the heroic defenders of the Gokdepe fortress is passed on from generation to generation. The exhibition also presents museum treasures telling about the dedication of the defenders of the Gokdepe fortress. By viewing works of fine art and photographs, one can appreciate the courage shown by our ancestors in this battle.

The national traditions of the Turkmen people are revered at the state level. This can be seen with the annual observance of Memorial Day on the 6th October. On this day, those who died in the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, as well as all those who fell on the battlefields, including Gokdepe, are honoured.

A special place at the exhibition is given to jewellery compositions and carpet panels dedicated to religious buildings of the city. These works glorify the appearance of the capital, which, in the context of the exhibition, sums up all the vicissitudes that befell the people of Turkmenistan.

After short but interesting speeches, the guests, together with other participants in this event, got acquainted with the valuable exhibits of the «Sacred Memory» exhibition.
