The troupe of the State Drama Theater of the Balkan velayat named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi the Great is working on a new play based on the legend of Gilgamesh.
One of the greatest works of the Ancient East, "The Epic of Gilgamesh", is considered the oldest surviving work in the history of world literature. Its text, which tells of mythical events in ancient Sumerian history, was written in cuneiform on clay tablets.
Using the historical and chronological semi-legendary Epic as a basis, Turkmen playwright Oguljennet Byashimova created a play for the theater. Director Ovezmammet Galandarov undertook the task of bringing the events of history to the stage. According to him, the concept of the play was born from an experimental production realized years earlier.
The dramatic plot directly depends on music and choreography. The actors, who have taken on the roles of gods and demigods, carefully prepare for rehearsals and study their characters. Lachin Nuryeva effortlessly embodies her new role of the goddess Ishtar. Myratgeldi Satiev works on portraying the vibrant and distinctive character of Enkidu.
Rejepgeldi Nazgurbanov will portray Gilgamesh, the mighty warrior and ruler of the city of Uruk, in the lead role.
The main plot revolves around the King Gilgamesh, who does not find a match in strength among his rivals. He begins to torment his subjects. The complaints of people grow every day, and their moans reach the gods. In order to teach Gilgamesh a lesson, the gods, testing him, create Enkidu - a simple, pure-hearted wild man who is just as strong as Gilgamesh.
"This is a large-scale production," says stage director Ovezmammet Galandarov. "In creating certain scenes, we work through the method of etudes. The actors try very hard, because they have a great responsibility to play in such a way that the audience believes.
" The new production will soon be added to the theater's repertoire. In the meantime, the State Drama Theater of Balkan velayat invites you to attend the play "Bir güniň aladasy" on November 5 at 19:00.
