On May 9, Turkmenistan widely and solemnly celebrated the Great Victory Day. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the solemn ceremony of laying flowers to the Memorial to Turkmen warriors who perished in the Great Patriotic War.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pays significant attention to the concern about elder generation. All necessary conditions for the worthy life are created in the country for war veterans. The social benefits are provided to them. The ceremonies of awarding monetary and valuable presents to war veterans and widows on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan on occasion of the 67th anniversary of the Great Victory took place in the Turkmen capital and administrative centers of all regions of the country on the eve of the holiday. Numerous festive events, including exhibitions, conferences, meetings, concerts, theatrical performances, sports competitions dedicated to this remarkable date were held throughout the country.
The culmination of the festivities dedicated to the Victory Day was the ceremony of laying flowers to the Memorial to National Heroes, where the Eternal Flame serves as an imperishable symbol of the people’s memory. On May 9 thousands of people of Ashgabat and guests to the Turkmen capital, the people of various ages and professions gathered together in the early morning near the Monument to the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War to pay tribute to our compatriots, all those, who upheld the liberty and independence of the Motherland, the right for peace and happy future of the present and future generations of the Turkmen citizens, and the people on the Earth.
Young soldiers, who are the successors of the glorious traditions of warfare of the Turkmen people, patriotic precepts of our valorous ancestors were standing guard in honour.
The cabinet ministers, the Chairperson of the Mejlis, the heads of the military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, public organisations, diplomatic missions and representative offices accredited to Turkmenistan, foreign businessmen, and journalists attended the ceremony. The main heroes of the May festivities were war veterans and those, who had worked selflessly day and night on the home front bringing closer the long-awaited victory. The ceremony participants cordially welcomed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Greeting those present, the Turkmen leader congratulated them, and first of all, war veterans and heroes of the home front on the Victory Day and wished them health, long-life and prosperity. In spite of the venerable age of our veterans, their souls do not age. They remain in the ranks and take an active part in the life of the state and society making significant contribution to education of younger generation in a spirit of high moral values of the nation, real patriotism and devoted love for the Fatherland.
War veterans expressed boundless gratitude to the national leader for his unceasing concern for elder generation, the happy life of all citizens of Turkmenistan, and the success of large-scale progressive changes and reforms launched throughout the country for the wellbeing and prosperity of the Motherland and people.
The State Hymn of Turkmenistan sounded and the thrilling melody “Kechpelek” sounded on the square. The people gathered together near the Obelisk stood still in a solemn silence.
A wreath form President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was laid to the obelisk. Following the Turkmen leader, war veterans, foreign diplomats, representatives of the ministries and departments, labour collectives, sons and grandsons of participants of the Great Patriotic War, who had come to commemorate national heroes, laid flowers to the monument.
The stream of people to the Eternal Flame monument, which became the place of attraction of our hearts on that day, was endless. Wonderful flowers embodying descendants’ boundless gratitude blanketed the pedestal of the monument. The memory about the feat of fearless defenders of the Motherland is imperishable and will always live in the hearts of grateful descendants!
In his address to war veterans and people of Turkmenistan congratulating on the 67th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Turkmen said that the fiery years of the Great Patriotic War had become a thing of the past, but it was impossible to forget the tragic events that left wound in hearts. “The people of Turkmenistan made a worthy contribution to winning the great victory. Thousands of our brave sons fell on the field of battle defending their native land and people during the grim years of war. Over a hundred citizens of Turkmenistan received the high title of Hero for their courage demonstrated during the war”, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory address.
“Our compatriots selflessly worked on the home front demonstrating a high example of patriotism. Mothers, the keepers of sacred family homes, young women and girls sent 7,392 kilograms of gold and silver jewelry and about 2.5 million items of warm clothes to the Defense Fund demonstrating the unity of the Turkmen people defending the native land. The heroism and courage of war veterans and those, who selflessly worked on the home front, and their lives itself have become a bright example of selfless service to people and Motherland”, said the President of Turkmenistan.
The guard of honor marched past in front of the Eternal Flame under the accompaniment of the melody performed by the military orchestra.
Then, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated once again on the Victory Day and expressed the wishes of peace, good health and prosperity to people and war veterans of Turkmenistan and left the venue.
