The State Drama Theater named after Kemine of Mary velayat held a song and music competition called "Bakshi" dedicated to the motto of the year "Fount of Wisdom Magtymguly Fragi".
The Bakshi competition became a truly vibrant event for the residents of Mary city. The audience was filled with honorary elders, cultural and art figures, as well as representatives of public organizations.
The masters of performing arts presented folk songs and songs based on the poetry of the great classic of Turkmen literature Magtymguly Fragi, to the guests and the competition jury. The musicians demonstrated their virtuosity and the best traditions of playing the national musical instrument - dutar.
As it is known, the national craft of making dutar, the performing musical art on it and the art of Bakshi are included in UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In order to continue and develop the traditions of the Bakshi art, creative competitions are regularly held in our country among aspiring performers and young people.
Last year's major competition, "Çalsana, bagşy!", aimed at popularizing cultural heritage, revealed new talented Bakshi from all over Turkmenistan. And this year's competition has identified promising musicians and worthy successors of the Turkmen national Bakshi school.
Bakhshi Rustem Onbegiev, who represented the Bakhshi House of Mary, took the first place in the contest timed to the motto of the year and celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi.
