The exhibition "Culture of Clothing and Jewelry Art of Turkic Peoples," dedicated to the Novruz Holiday and the 15th anniversary of its inclusion in UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, opened at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
The exhibition features traditional women's costumes and jewelry of the peoples of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
The exhibits are from the collections of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the Association of Hungarian Folk Artists and the private collection of Virginia Morgan-Hayat.
Virginia Morgan-Hayat, the wife of Nasar Hayat, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative in Azerbaijan, has been collecting jewelry, robes, carpets and handicrafts of folk art for many years.
Her private collection, consisting of over 500 different exhibits acquired in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries, is constantly growing. This is due to her numerous travels in Central Asia and her curiosity as a collector of antiquities.
For the festive exhibition, Virginia chose robes, carpets, suzanis and one of the most valuable items in her collection - a 16-meter-long carpet tapestry that was used to decorate a yurt.
The first visitors to the exhibition showed great interest in the exhibited items, which vividly demonstrate the rich heritage of Turkic peoples in the field of national costumes and jewelry art.
