In the year declared as the "Fount of Wisdom Magtymguly Fragi," all 15 departments of the M. Kuliyeva Turkmen National Conservatory in Turkmenistan hold a Creative Week, which reveals the contribution of the great poet to the country's musical culture.
The Department of Music History started the Week with the presentation of a monograph by senior lecturer Leyla Babaeva titled "The Image of Magtymguly in the Works of Turkmen Composers." By the way, one could get acquainted with this monograph at the book exhibition, compiled from collections of Magtymguly's poems, as well as literature by art historians, narrating about the life and work of the poet, including the influence of Magtymguly's poetry on the creation of musical compositions.
The book exhibition is set up in the foyer, opposite the picturesque exhibition dedicated to Magtymguly. And if the books were provided by the Conservatory library, then the paintings were provided by the State Academy of Arts.
The lecture-concert for the audience gathered in the Small Hall of the Conservatory was conducted by the author of the presented monograph, Leyla Babaeva.
For several centuries, she noted, Magtymguly's works have been inspiring the best Turkmen musicians. About half of the repertoire of bakhshis (traditional Turkmen musicians) consists of Magtymguly’s poems. The greatest interpreter of Magtymguly's works is the folk bakhshi Sakhy Jepbarov. He also composed works dedicated to Magtymguly Fragi, including "Dedication to Shahyrs."
Particularly great love was won by didactic-philosophical compositions, in which the poet gives instructions, wise advice, and shares his thoughts. But above all, composers were inspired by love lyrics. These works of the poet were used to create operas, symphonies, symphonic poems, odes, cantatas, choral and vocal compositions.
Composers Nury Khalmamedov, Rejep Rejepov, Meret Annamyradov made their contribution to the films "Magtymguly" (directed by Alty Garlyev), "Fragi, Separated from Happiness" (directed by Khojaguly Narlyev), "Magtymguly" (directed by Baba Annanov), "Magtymguly" (directed by O. Orazov), emphasizing the close connection of the poet with the fate of the people.
It is noteworthy that during the lecture students and teachers of the Conservatory performed as if to confirm what was said by L. Babaeva. There were performed choral composition "Baglar heý" by Danatar Ovezov, romances "Armanym galdy" by Chary Nurymov, "Aýryldym" by Kerim Jumagulyev, "Näme sen" by Khydyr Allanurov, and "Bu gün" by Veli Akhmedov.
The lecture-concert concluded with the screening of a video recording of the poem "Fount of Wisdom Magtymguly Fragi" by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The Creative Week of the Department of Music History will continue with eight more concerts dedicated to Magtymguly Fragi.
