Studentt from Turkmenistan won 1st place at the International Olympiad on SDGs

Jora Jumakulov, a 4th-year student of the Hydro-Amelioration Faculty at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, won first place at the International Internet Olympiad "Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia, Afghanistan and Mongolia," organized by the Kazakh-German University.

Jora was awarded the winner's title thanks to his scientific project "Using Solar Energy and Obtaining Clean Water," which received high praise from the competition jury. With this project, the student successfully participated in one of the competition's directions, "Integrated Water and Land Resources Management," related to SDG 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) and SDG 15 (Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss).

The competition consisted of two rounds and a final stage, in which 25 students from higher education institutions of 7 countries earned the right to participate. These countries included Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Mongolia. According to the final results, one student from each country was awarded first place.

Turkmen youth are increasingly demonstrating high results in various SDG competitions, highlighting their special contribution to achieving the SDGs, as well as the effectiveness of the measures taken in the country and the visible progress in this direction.

As is well known, in 2015, the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Turkmenistan actively participated in its development and was among the first countries to officially adopt all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Turkmenistan strives to fulfill its commitments and makes a significant contribution to the successful implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN, which are of utmost global importance. Achieving the SDGs implies the consolidation of efforts by participating countries in solving global challenges aimed at ensuring a balance of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
