Turkmen sambo wrestlers won 21 medals of various ranks at the Asia and Oceania Championship held in Macau.
The competition gathered 244 athletes from 20 countries, who competed for the title of the strongest in 28 weight categories in Sport and Combat SAMBO among men and women.
As a result of the championship, the Turkmenistan national team took third place in the team standings with 2 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze medals, behind representatives of Kazakhstan (15 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze) and Uzbekistan (8 gold, 1 silver and 10 bronze medals).
In our team, the highest step of the podium was reached by: Byagul Nuryeva, a coach-instructor of the 1st sports school of the Charjew etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat, and Rushana Nurjanova, a coach-instructor of the 2nd sports school of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Ashgabat. Both athletes became champions of Asia and Oceania in the Combat SAMBO tournament. Byagul achieved this success in the weight category up to 50 kg, which featured four athletes, while Rushana won in the weight category up to 59 kg with the participation of 9 sambo wrestlers.
Silver medals were awarded in Sport SAMBO to: Aziza Nazarova, coach-instructor of the 1st sports school of Danev etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (up to 50 kg, 7 participants); Kambar Umarov, coach-instructor of the 3rd sports school of Charjew etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (71 kg, 14 participants); Agamyrat Byashimov, 5th-year student of Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (up to 88 kg, 7 participants).
In Combat SAMBO, silver medals went to: Kerim Kerimov, 1st-year student of Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction (up to 64 kg, 6 participants); Zarina Abdyrakhmanova, coach-instructor of Ak Bugday etrap sports school of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Akhal velayat (up to 54 kg, 9 participants); Sabina Agajanova, coach-instructor of Danev etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat. Sabina Agajanova achieved this success in the super heavyweight category over 80 kg, where three athletes competed for medals.
Our compatriots won bronze medals in five more weight categories in Combat SAMBO competitions. The third step of the podium was reached by: Alikhan Aydogdyev, 11th-grade student of the 31st secondary school of Turkmenabat, Lebap velayat (up to 58 kg, 6 participants); Maksat Annagylyjov, 5th-year student of Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (up to 79 kg, 5 participants); Agasapar Mukhadov, athlete of the National Martial Arts Federation of Turkmenistan (up to 88 kg, 8 participants); Bezirgen Begenjov, 4th-year student of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan (over 98 kg, 4 participants); Gulzada Jorakulieva, 5th-year student of Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (up to 72 kg, 4 participants).
Eight bronze medals were won by Turkmen athletes in Sport SAMBO. The recipients were: Babamyrat Bayramov, 1st-year student of Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction (up to 58 kg, 11 participants); Sapar Dovletov, physical education teacher at Ashgabat's 67th secondary school (up to 64 kg, 13 participants); Nedir Allaberdiyev, coach-instructor of the 4th sports school of Magdanly etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (up to 79 kg, 8 participants); Sayara Rozyeva, coach of the 1st sports school of Charjew etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (54 kg, 9 participants); Madina Aydogdyeva, coach-instructor of the 1st sports school of Turkmenabat of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (59 kg, 9 participants); Zyba Orunova, coach-instructor of the 4th sports school of Charjew etrap of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (72 kg, 5 participants); Saodat Ishmyradova, coach-instructor of the 7th sports school of Turkmenabat of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat (80 kg, 3 participants); Sabina Agajanova (over 80 kg, 4 participants)
Sabina Agajanova was the only athlete in the Turkmen team to win two medals at the Asia and Oceania Championship: bronze in Sport SAMBO and silver in Combat SAMBO.
The next Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championship for adults, youth, juniors, cadets and masters will be held in 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
