On June 6, Mary, the 2012 cultural capital of the CIS will host the International Conference “Ancient Merv is the Center of the World Culture” that will bring together well-known scientists from the CIS member states.
The forum representing a humanitarian vector of the concept of the presidency of Turkmenistan in the CIS in 2012, and cooperation of our country with other states and authoritative organisations in general, will provide the delegates of the CIS member states with an opportunity to learn more about achievements of Turkmenistan in the spheres of culture, science and education, the work on preserving, studying and promoting the historical and cultural monuments located on the territory of Turkmenistan.
The main goal of the international conference that will be organized and held by the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Mary Velayat Khyakimlik is to promote further developing the international cultural and scientific relations, strengthening the scientific basis on the ancient material culture of Turkmenistan, and enhancing cultural relations with the CIS member states.
The International Conference “Ancient Merv is the Center of the World Culture” is to be another contribution to the large-scale work carried out within the dynamically developing partnership of Turkmenistan with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It should be noted that the complex of unique monuments in Merv, the legendary city of the ancient world is one of the largest historical complexes included into the UNSECO World Heritage List.
