Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia develop scientific ties

On August 1, the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with a delegation from the King Abdulaziz Scientific Center of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by its Executive Director Turki Al-Shuwaier.

The delegation's visit was organized within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in February 2009 and the agreements reached at the 7th session of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Saudi Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation held on May 29 in Riyadh. The meeting discussed existing achievements and prospects for further bilateral scientific cooperation, including events related to the 300th anniversary of the great Eastern thinker and Turkmen classical poet, Magtymguly Fragi.

In particular, it is planned to hold a presentation in Riyadh of a collection of Magtymguly's works translated into Arabic. During their visit to Ashgabat, members of the Saudi delegation participated in cultural and scientific events organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Turkmenistan.

The exhibition "Asyrlaryň dowamynda iki mukaddes metjitler, golýazmalaryň gözelligi we olaryň has seýrek duş gelýänleri" ("Two Sacred Mosques Over the Centuries, the Beauty of Manuscripts and Their Rare Copies"), which opened on July 31 at the Museum of Fine Arts, featured various exhibits showcasing the culture, traditions and customs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, historical and cultural monuments in the cities of Mecca and Medina, images of the two sacred mosques, as well as rare Arabic manuscripts preserved in Turkmenistan. The exhibition is open until August 4, 2024.

Scientists of two countries discussed the scientific value of manuscripts written in Arabic language and alphabet for studying the history, literature, language and traditions of both peoples at the seminar "Türkmenistandaky arap golýazmalary" ("Arabic Manuscripts in Turkmenistan").

For the guests from Saudi Arabia, visits were organized to the State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Nisa," the State Museum and the State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan.
