A meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government took place in the Oguzkent Hotel in Ashgabat under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The government delegations of the CIS member states, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the meeting hosted by Turkmenistan as a country that has chaired the CIS in 2012. Before beginning of the forum the President of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings with the heads of the delegations representing the CIS member states. On May 29 the Turkmen leader received Sergey Lebedev, Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Opening the meeting and cordially greeting the high ranking guests, Chairmen of the of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed sincere gratitude to those present for accepting the invitation to visit Ashgabat for participation in the forum.
Defining cooperation in such areas as energy, transport, and communications among the priority spheres, the President of Turkmenistan noted that today the full integration into the world economic relations had been very important for each country, member of the Commonwealth, as an equal participant.
Upon approving the agenda and fixing the time limit, the meeting participants considered and discussed a number of issues, and adopted the relevant decisions.
Then, the meeting continued in an expanded format with participation of the members of government delegations of the CIS member states. The issues put on the agenda of the Ashgabat sitting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government were discussed during the meeting. Particular attention was paid to the Strategy of the development of physical culture and sports of the Commonwealth for the period up to 2020, the Regulations on Operator of the Intergovernmental Programme on innovative cooperation of the CIS member states for the period up to 2020, as well as approval of deputies of the Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Then the ceremony of signing the documents aimed at widening and fostering cooperation between the CIS member states in the economic sphere and industrial sector took place. The outcomes of the Ashgabat forum were presented within the framework of the press-conference.
In honour of the heads of the delegations of the CIS member states the President of Turkmenistan gave an official dinner. Addressing the high ranking guests, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the meeting participants for fruitful participation in the forum, and underlined with satisfaction the readiness of the countries for the multi-aspect cooperation given the national and common interests.
In the afternoon President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducted the talks with Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. The meeting taken place within the framework of the working visit of the Head of the Government of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, turned into a constructive dialogue on a wide spectrum of issues reaffirming the adherence of the countries to the full-scale strategic partnership.
