President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in the People’s Republic of China on a working visit, received President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. The meeting took place upon completion of the SCO Summit, where the Heads of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan participated as Guests of Honour.
Cordially greeting each other, the leaders of the neighbouring countries exchanged their views on the priority vectors of the Turkmen-Afghan cooperation, as well as on the urgent issues of the regional and international policy given the interests of the two states.
The President of Afghanistan expressed deep gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the policy of friendship and good-neighborliness, regular assistance provided to the people of Afghanistan in building peaceful life. In this context the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan underlined the significance of the topicality of the initiatives put forward by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly to settle the political situation in Afghanistan that was also reflected in the Turkmen President’s address at the SCO Summit in Beijing.
Underlining that Turkmenistan expressing solidarity with the people of Afghanistan in their aspiration for peace and prosperity would provide comprehensive assistance to fraternal Afghanistan in reviving the social and economic infrastructure, Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed the intention of our country to actively contribute to global efforts in Afghanistan. Dwelling upon this issue the Turkmen leader underlined once again that the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan were aimed at settling the situation in Afghanistan by solely peaceful and diplomatic means.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the implementation of the project on construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. It was noted that implementation of this large-scale project initiated by Turkmenistan would contribute to the social and economic revival of Afghanistan, work given the interest of all member states, as well as would promote strengthening the positive mutually beneficial cooperation at the Asian region.
In conclusion of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Hamid Karzai expressed belief that the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Afghan relations would strengthen and successfully develop in all areas and addressed the best wishes of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
