Turkmenistan-CIS: development of the intergovernmental system of communications

The 46th meeting of the Board of Communications Administrations Heads of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of communications (RCC Board) opened in the Turkmen capital.

The delegations of the RCC full members led by the heads of Communications Administrations of the RCC member states, including the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and RCC observers from Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Slovenia, the Intersputnik International Organisation for Space Communication, the Latvian Post Limited Liability Company, as well as representatives of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), etc. arrived in Ashgabat to take part in the forum.

As is known, the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC) was set up on December 17, 1991 in Moscow to coordinate cooperation between new independent states in the field of telecommunication and postal communication based on their free will, principles of mutual respect. In October 2002 the Governments of the CIS countries adopted a decision on creation of Coordination Council for Informatization of the CIS member states attached to the RCC (Coordination Council) – an interstate coordinating body in the field of information technologies.

Within the framework of the first day of the meeting a wide spectrum of issues on further regional cooperation in the sphere of communication and information technologies were discussed. Given that the year of 2012 was announced the Year of Communication and Informatization, it was recommended to continue organizing regular meetings to exchange experience, develop united approaches towards solution of the tasks in the sphere of communication and informatization. A number of organizational issues were considered during the meeting.
