Memory of Turkmen opera singer Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva will be honored in Moscow

On April 6, a concert titled "Turkmen Nightingale" will be held at the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts (Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery) in Moscow, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Turkmen opera singer Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva. The commemorative event is organized by the organizing committee of the Moscow International Arts Festival "Sounds of Dutar" with the support of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Russia.

The program will feature famous works from the opera singer's repertoire, arias from European operas, and romances of Turkmen composers. The concert will involve students from leading creative universities, soloists from famous Moscow theaters, members of the jury, and friends of the Moscow International Arts Festival "Sounds of Dutar" named after Nury Khalmamedov.

Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva’s artistic path is closely connected with Moscow. She studied and honed her performance skills at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky. Her triumphant performances on the world’s best stages began from Moscow, including France, Poland, India, Canada, and Sweden.

After graduating from the conservatory, Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva worked at the Turkmen State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Makhtumkuli. She performed in operas such as "Shasenem and Garib", "A Troubled Night," and took leading roles in operas like "The Tsar’s Bride," "La Traviata," and others. Her voice can be heard in films from different years, including "The Trick of Old Ashir," "My Friend Melekush," and "Japbaki."

As a prominent figure in Turkmen musical art, she not only showcased herself as a talented singer but also became an outstanding educator, nurturing many talented performers. For her dedication to her work and tireless service to her country, she was awarded a high award – the Order of Turkmenistan "Altyn asyr" III degree.

For many years, Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva remained the muse of Nury Khalmamedov. Their creative partnership produced musical masterpieces that became a part of the world’s cultural heritage.

One of the last composers she worked with was Mamed Guseynov. She immediately recognized the talent of the young musician after listening to his works. Their creative collaboration resulted in a diptych of songs based on the poetry of Kurbannazar Ezizov – two romances: "My Love" and "My Land." The friendship between Mamed and Medeniyet became a symbol of the continuity and eternity of art.

In 2024, the organizing committee of the Moscow International Arts Festival "Sounds of Dutar" named after Nury Khalmamedov established a special prize named after Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva. This decision was made in deep respect and recognition of the rich legacy of the outstanding singer. For the first time, a special prize named after Medeniyet Shahberdiyeva was awarded to Dunyagozel Begaliyeva, a student of the Turkmen National Conservatory.
