On April 4, the Mukam Palace of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan hosted the concert "Paris la nuit – Berlin im Licht" ("Paris at Night – Berlin in Light"), organized by the Embassy of Germany in collaboration with the French Institute at the Embassy of France and the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.
Welcoming the numerous guests gathered in the auditorium, Bernd Heinze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Turkmenistan, noted that this concert is a wonderful example of cooperation and cultural exchange between Turkmenistan, France, and Germany. It demonstrates how music can build bridges and unite people of different nationalities.
The unifying power of music was fully revealed in the performances of the artists.
Accompanied by the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan under the direction of Resul Gylyjov, the renowned German singer, actress, and performer of musicals, eight-time winner of the prestigious audience award of the Berlin Theater Club "Golden Curtain", Katharina Mehrling, shone on stage. Ferdinand von Seebach accompanied her on the piano.
The performance of legendary music works of European culture was accompanied by stories about the lives and creative work of their authors. Thus, the evening's guests were able to fully immerse themselves in the biography of the German composer Kurt Weill, who became famous largely due to his collaboration with the German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht.
Speaking about what inspired the composer, Katharina Mehrling shared her personal experiences, emphasizing that the creativity of the great French singer Edith Piaf was a significant inspiration for her vocal career.
The concert turned out to be truly multilingual. The program featured songs in German, French, English and Turkmen. Performing masterpieces such as "Salomon song," "Berlin im Licht," "Padam," and "Non, je ne regrette rien," the singer invited the rising star of the Turkmen pop music, Dovran Shammiev, to join her on stage. Together, they performed "Writing's on the Wall" and the famous Turkmen composition "Türkmen Sährasy" to the music of Nury Halmammedov.
"Music unites people from all over the world, regardless of the language we speak or the culture we grew up in. Music is a common human language. For me, it is a great joy to perform in this beautiful country with the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan under the direction of Resul Gylyjov," Katharina Mehrling emphasized.
The concert, held as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust, became a vivid example of how cultural exchange contributes to strengthening mutual understanding between peoples.
