Turkmen students took part in the 3rd International Student Leadership Meeting on Sustainable Development (ISLMS 2025), held in Szeged, Hungary, from 10th to 12th of April. The event was organised by the University of Szeged together with the international organisation UI GreenMetric.
A major international event brought together 64 young leaders from 57 universities in 27 countries to exchange experiences and discuss global challenges of sustainable development.
Turkmenistan was represented at the event by three talented and active student leaders. Among them are Dilnoza Mamutniyazova, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Chairperson of the Student Council of the Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan named after Oguzhan, Selbi Atayeva, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Ecology of the same university, Young Ambassador of the SDG №12, as well as Davut Dovletov, a 2nd-year student of the Faculty of Agricultural Processing of the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Nyyazov.
Over the course of three days, young leaders actively participated in conferences, focus group discussions (FGD), environmental campaigns and cultural events under the general theme «Challenges and Pathways to a Sustainable Future».
The Turkmen delegation made a significant contribution to the international dialogue on sustainable development. Dilnoza and Selbi made presentations on the implementation of sustainable initiatives at Oguzhan University, and Davut shared his experience in the field of sustainable agriculture and eco-friendly food production.
All three took part in discussions on key topics of sustainable development - from climate change and water management to sustainable education and scientific research, presenting Turkmenistan's approaches and strategies in these areas in the international arena.
A special highlight of the event was a visit to the exhibition «Katalin Karikó's Journey to the Nobel Prize and Beyond», dedicated to the University of Szeged graduate, a scientist who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023 for her discoveries that allowed the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. This exhibition, demonstrating how scientific achievements can change the world for the better, became a worthy example for the young activists participating in the event.
The meeting ended with the signing of the International Youth Declaration on Sustainable Development, symbolising the commitment of students from different countries to jointly building a sustainable future.
The participation of Turkmen students in this meeting clearly reflected the country's active position in global processes to ensure sustainable development and the growing role of youth in shaping environmental well-being in the world.
