President of Turkmenistan takes part in the UN Conference on Sustainable Development

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has left for the Federal Republic of Germany today to take part in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development that has brought together authoritative politicians and public figures in Rio de Janeiro.

Participation of the Turkmen leader in the world symposium vividly demonstrates the adherence of the international community to sustainable development in the XXI century, as well as proves the inviolability of the basis of the state policy pursued by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which prioritizes establishment of wide international cooperation in all important areas, including the sphere of ecology and environment protection.

Turkmenistan recognized by the world community as a generator of a number of wonderful ideas, moves forward providing new approaches to address the existing and prevent probable ecological problems in close collaboration with the international specialized organisations. That is vividly proved by the fact that over 30 various projects and programmes implemented at present at the national and regional level that are supported by such authoritative international structures as the UN Development Programme, UN Environment Programme, Global Ecological Fund, etc.

It should be noted that the positive experience of Turkmenistan in organisation of large international forums on a wide range of topics has predetermined the choice of the Turkmen capital as the venue for holding major environmental forums, conferences and seminars that focus on various approaches to address the problems of the modern times.

As is known, the readiness of our country to take an active part in searching their optimal solutions has turned into important initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from the high rostrum of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly that were widely supported by the world community.

The constructive initiatives of the Turkmen leader focusing on enhancing cooperation within the framework of this largest international organisation are aimed at improving the ecological condition of the Central Asian region, ensuring the stable development of the Caspian Sea region and preserving the ecological purity of the Caspian Sea. Among the other important initiatives of the Turkmen side is the offer on establishment of new specialized structure – the UN Interregional Center to address the climate change issues.

All these initiatives will be put forward at the Rio + 20 Global Summit, organisation of which vividly testifies to the general understanding of the necessity to coordinate the efforts in this important area.

It is expected that within the framework of the forum in Rio de Janeiro, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will hold a number of bilateral meetings to discuss the urgent issues of the interstate, regional and global cooperation.
