The Museum of Fine Arts is running an exhibition devoted to International Women’s Day, featuring artworks, arts and crafts. On display are famous paintings by master artists: “Motherhood” by Evgenia Adamova, “Bakhar” by Aikhan Hajiev, and “Lilacs” by Yarly Bairamov. Nearby are works by contemporary artists.

The exhibition presents wonderfully vibrant floral paintings. “Poppies” by Gulshat Annamuradova is truly eye-catching. Gulshat managed to capture the poetic beauty of these spring flowers on canvas: scarlet petals with silky soft shine stand out against the snow-white background.

“A Pomegranate Paradise”, a felt mat created by Ayna Patarova, is often publicly exhibited. It brings up an association with the Biblical story of Adam and Eve. The scene shows a pomegranate tree instead of the apple tree in Paradise, which Ayna refers to allegorically, and a good-natured assiduous donkey takes the place of the Serpent. The depiction creates an atmosphere of happiness and positive expectations.

Young artist Dmitry Filipchenko paints on velvet. His paintings are always a big draw at exhibitions. This time, viewers have a chance to see “Mirage”. Based on the oriental legend about a sultana and a snake, it depicts the oriental beautiful woman wearing a hoodlike headdress adorned with golden snake scales. In the background are monochromatic outlines of a majestic medieval city.

Well-known artist Rakhman Umarov presents a painting titled “Gunesh”. The painting portrays a woman with a wonderfully poetic spring landscape in the background. Visitors to the exhibition try to guess why the beauty is so sad…

- When I was working on the painting, the girl named Gunesh, who was sitting for me, was faced with the difficult choice of continuing her education in a chosen professional field or of obeying her parents’ will and getting married, the artist tells. A few years later, I learned that Gunesh had fulfilled her dream of earning a university degree. And she had a happy marriage…

The exhibition also showcases ethnic-style women’s handbags made by Leili Karova, a student of the State Academy of Arts. The bags are embellished with depictions of beautiful oriental women and ruby-red rhinestones.

The themed exhibition, which offers visitors the chance to gain insights into history, legends and unique Turkmen traditions, to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of springtime renewal, and to admire the Turkmen women’s beauty and talents, has added an extra sparkle and color to a series of festive events.
