The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change has started in Baku and will take place from November 11 to 22. It is expected that the capital of Azerbaijan will host about 70,000 international guests, including the Turkmenistan delegation.
Following the official opening ceremony of COP29, which will be held on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium, the World Leaders Climate Action Summit will take place on November 12-13, where about 80 heads of state and government from parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will speak. The COP29 program includes numerous events covering various aspects of the climate agenda such as green finance, adaptation, mitigation and technology, as well as a range of other relevant topics.
Official negotiations will be conducted and important decisions made in the Blue Zone of the Conference, while the Green Zone will host various exhibitions, seminars and cultural events related to climate change. Workshops and sessions in the Green Zone of COP29 will focus on specific climate issues such as water scarcity in the region and innovations in renewable energy. Key topics to be addressed include nature and biodiversity, ocean ecosystem conservation, resource management, empowering individuals and communities, sustainable future, responsibility for humanity.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed in June 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. The Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change has been held annually since 1995. The main goal of this global summit is to assess progress in combating climate change worldwide. During sessions held from 2011 to 2015, discussions focused on a crucial international document in the fight against climate change, adopted in France in 2015 and known as the Paris Agreement. To date, 195 countries, including Turkmenistan, have joined this agreement.
