M. Khusnullin: Arkadag city is a world-class project

Turkmenistan has great prospects in the field of construction development, having made significant progress in this area. The quality of the facilities and the scale of construction in the cities of Arkadag and Ashgabat inspire sincere respect. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, Marat Khusnullin, in an interview with journalists following a meeting of the Commission.

“Our delegation visited the new ‘smart’ city of Arkadag. I want to say that this is a world-class project, implemented in a short period of time. I have been working in urban planning for 25 years, and on a professional level I was very interested to learn how this large-scale, innovative plan was brought to life,” said M. Khusnullin.

According to the Russian guest, he was particularly impressed by the combined development system in the new city, where residential areas, a special economic zone, a technology park, and an educational cluster — incorporating a large number of educational institutions — are harmoniously integrated. The city of Arkadag is a vivid example of thoughtful and comprehensive urban planning, the Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission noted.

M. Khusnullin also shared that Russia is currently implementing the national project “Infrastructure for Life”, which involves the integrated development of territories. Therefore, a development project such as this “smart” city is of great interest to the Russian side.

“We examined the urban infrastructure from the perspective of master planning and the application of smart city technologies. All the elements of a smart city have been implemented here. We also reviewed the building design standards, the provision of kindergartens and schools, and the balanced layout of the areas. I would like to highlight that there are very few cities in the world where 45% of the territory is green space. And it is important to understand that this greenery is entirely man-made — previously, there were no such green areas here. This is a very interesting experience. And of course, we are ready to exchange experience both in terms of practical implementation and in education,” concluded the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
