Not so long ago, the book «Shahyryn gyzy» («The daughter of the poet») was published. The author of the poetry collection is Chemen Annaberdiyeva. The author named her first book that way because she is really the daughter of the famous poet Atajan Annaberdiyev.
After graduating from the Ashgabat pedagogical institute, she started working as a radio journalist on the «Watan» channel. Journalists loved the works of Atajan Annaberdiyev, and the young employee was more often referred to not by her first name, but as «The daughter of the shahyr». Chemen did not mind: she was proud of her father and wanted to be like him in everything. Therefore, Chemen began composing poetry from school, and their first reader and strict critic was Atajan Annaberdiyev.
In 2017, Chemen Atajanovna was invited to the position of head of the department of the newspaper «Watan». Working for a newspaper requires a lot of dedication. But usually, somewhere on the road, an interesting line is born in the head of Chemen. She is like a seed sown in the ground, which will eventually germinate. And from time to time, Chemen pleases the readers of the «Watan» newspaper with new poetic works. The poetess writes about love, about the Motherland, about beautiful Ashgabat. Lyric and patriotism in her poems are closely intertwined with each other.
An invaluable direction in her work is translated poetry. Chemen Atajanovna is the author of translations of the works of the Persian poet Rudaki, the Romanian poet Jalaletdin Rumi, the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, the Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, the Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi, the Belarusian poets Yanka Kupala, Mikola Metlitskiy, the Kyrgyz poet Ayala Tokombayev, the Russian poetesses Anna Ahmatova and Marina Tsvetayeva, the Dagestani poet Rasul Gamzatov, the Chuvash poet Valeri Turgaya and others.
Currently, Cemen Atajanovna is working with great interest on the translation of a poem by the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. So far, only selected poems from this poem have been published.
Chemen understands firsthand what it means to translate a poem by an author belonging to another culture and another epoch. She publishes her own poetry in five Russian and Belarusian literary magazines. In the recently published 113th issue of the «Severo-Muisky lights» magazine (the second issue for 2026), an entire page is dedicated to the anniversary of the Turkmen poet and translator Chemen Annaberdiyeva - Chemen turns 60 at the end of this year. At the same time, in addition to a selection of her poems translated by Andrey Novikov, the magazine published her poems in the Turkmen language. In this way, students studying at Russian universities are given the opportunity to compare the translation and the original of the poem.
The editorial board of «GA» congratulates Chemen Atajanovna Annaberdiyeva on the upcoming anniversary and wishes new achievements in her work, which serves the exchange of cultural values between peoples, and therefore peace and friendship on Earth.
