“Night of Ideas” Brought Together Ashgabat’s Creative Youth

On June 21, the French Institute in Turkmenistan became part of the international “Night of Ideas” initiative. This global project, created by the French Institute in Paris, annually brings together dozens of cities around the world, creating a unified intellectual and cultural space for the exchange of ideas.

In Ashgabat, the evening proved to be exceptionally eventful. Since this year’s central theme was “Opening the Way,” the organizers designed the program around relevant topics aimed at helping participants find direction for their personal and professional development.

For those interested in the cultural industries, an inspiring session titled “Art and Education” was organized.

Invited experts—including illustrator Shirin Begmyradova, choreographer Allamyrat Saparov, actor Sergey Kiselev, and film director and photographer Erkin Yazov—shared their personal professional experiences. Together with the audience, they explored ways of finding new and unique opportunities for creative self-expression in today’s digital age.

The roundtable discussion dedicated to artificial intelligence and the professions of the future attracted the largest number of participants. Local IT specialists, including Front-End Web Developer Ilyas Seisov and volunteer fundraiser Jemal Uvarova, introduced attendees to the intricacies of digital security. The audience actively engaged in discussions about the impact of AI on the labor market, the prospects for digital transformation in Turkmenistan, and new opportunities for self-education.

Another important and lively platform focused on “Ecology and Sustainable Development.” Speakers shared successful experiences in implementing green technologies.

The busy day concluded with a musical program. Choral performances and an open-microphone format gave young talented musicians and performers the opportunity to showcase their skills.

The recent “Night of Ideas” demonstrated that the French Institute serves as a unique multilingual space. By participating in panel discussions, Ashgabat’s youth gained invaluable experience in public speaking and real-life conversational practice in different languages. Each of the topics addressed—from advanced technologies to the fine arts—proved its significance, bringing together people committed to making our world better, safer, and more creative.
