Employees of the museums of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan reviewed the draft Memorandum of Cooperation

In the format of an online meeting, a dialogue was held between specialists of the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan and employees of the State Museum of the History of the Timurids of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

The topics of the videoconference were the study of the values and monuments of the Timurid era and the consideration of the draft Memorandum of Cooperation between the museums of the two states developed by the Uzbek side.

Museum specialists from Uzbekistan comprehensively consecrated the activities of the State Museum of the History of the Timurids of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, spoke not only about the most important exhibits and scientific research carried out by the employees of the institution, but also about archaeological finds related to the Timurid era. The Uzbek representatives also noted the importance of publishing a bibliographic work in several languages at once, containing a list of more than five thousand printed works related to the name of Emir Timur. The publication contains dissertations, monographs and other writings dedicated to Tamerlane.

Further, museum specialists from Uzbekistan turned to their Turkmen colleagues with a wish to get acquainted with the archaeological finds related to the Timurid era, stored in the State Museum of Turkmenistan, as well as with written sources dedicated to this historical period.

Turkmen specialists, emphasizing the special attention of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his personal involvement in the preservation of the national heritage of the Turkmen people, the study of history, monuments of spiritual and material culture, told their partners about the inclusion of three outstanding historical monuments of Turkmenistan into the UNESCO World Heritage List: historical and cultural reserves "ancient Merv" (since 1999), "Kunyaurgench" (since 2005) and the Parthian fortresses of Nisa (since 2007).

Further, the museum workers of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of studying the monuments of the material culture of the Timurid era, because this will help restore the most interesting pages in the history of Central Asia and understand the general direction of the evolution of architecture and fine arts in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

It is well known that during the reign of the Timurids there was a powerful upsurge of cultural and scientific life in Central Asia. Tamerlane himself invited the most talented architects from Kunyaurgench to build the Ak-Saray palace in Kesh. On the territory of Merv, architectural masterpieces erected in that era are still preserved.

Another of the works of architects erected during the reign of the Timurids was the mosque of Seyit Jamal ad-Din in Anau, now destroyed as a result of an earthquake.

In conclusion, the participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for their unflagging attention to the issues of humanitarian development and strengthening of cultural ties between peoples, and also noted the possibility of holding thematic exhibitions and mutual visits of specialists to transfer experience in maintaining the preservation and restoration of museum values.
