World Jazz Day was celebrated in our capital with a concert that took place at the National Music and Drama Theatre named after Magtymguly. Honoured Art Worker of Turkmenistan Rovshen Nepesov and jazz orchestra musicians are on stage. The concert program began with the author's work by Rovshen Nepesov «Avaza».

From the very first sounds, the hall plunged into the atmosphere of a carefree contemplative rest on the beautiful coast of the Hazar. Shining waves of the sea, rays of the sun bathing in the coolness of the waves, night lights gliding over the blue-black surface of the water surface - all this was told in light melodic jazz phrases.

«Oriental Fantasy» by Rejep Allayarov, which replaced «Avaza», sounded with ease, unhurried and melodious, as if defending for itself individuality in jazz.

Vocalist Selim Gurbansahedov easily and naturally, with impeccable pronunciation, performed the composition «Sway» - one of the most popular pieces from the repertoire of jazzmen.

Almost every time, giving a concert, Rovshen Nepesov presents his new work to the audience. This time, the composer entrusted the premiere performance of the work «Cypress» to Bahram Dolyyev, whom he considers a virtuoso violinist. And the violin in Bahram's hands seemed to cry, remembering the mythological story of a slender young man who was turned into a tree. The author and the performer firmly shook hands with each other as a sign that they were satisfied with mutual creativity.

The concert program ended with the legendary song «Kushdepti», arranged in the style of jazz, and the popular singer from the Balkan velayat Soyunmammet Hudayberdiyev, better known as Uncle Soyun, was invited to perform it. The hall warmly greeted the original number.

The director of the Mariinsky Theatre Alexey Vasiliyevich Yemelyanov, the director of the Mariinsky Theatre, ascended the stage from the hall. «In our view», he said, «Turkmenistan is a colourful country with strong traditional roots. But after this concert, another Turkmenistan opened up for us, looking for itself in new modern directions of creativity. And most importantly, the Turkmen colleagues are doing well».

By the way, the next day after the concert «Nepesov Trio», which included, in addition to Rovshan Nepesov, bassist Ashyr Veliyev and drummer Aram Bezikyan, went to Tajikistan for the VII International Dushanbe Ethno-Jazz Festival.
