Long before the Shusha State Musical and Drama Theatre presented sunny Azerbaijan at the IV International Festival «Theatrical Art of a Happy Epoch», the theatre audience began to wonder what Edelweiss is?

At the premiere screening of the lyrical-psychological drama «Edelweiss» or («You are always with me»), held at the Main Academic Drama Theatre named after S. Turkmenbashy the Great, guests and festival participants learned that this beautiful name is given to a flower that grows high in the mountains.

- How strange. «It’s completely dry, but it smells like it was just picked», the main character Nargilya (Zahra Salayeva) is surprised.

- Yes. Such a flower. It himself dies, but the aroma remains forever, answers Gasanzade (Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan Nazir Rustamov).

The theatrical production is based on the work of the people's writer of Azerbaijan Ilyas Efendiyev. The complex theme of the plot touches on issues of personal choice. A young girl developed feelings for a much older man. The parents are dissatisfied with their daughter’s choice and do their best to prevent the creation of an unequal union.

Throughout the entire performance, the conflict of interests, spiritual and moral component and dramatic background kept the viewer in suspense. At the same time, everyone sitting in the hall empathized with the heroes of history.

As the director of the production, Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan Logman Kerimov, noted in the afterword, the main message of the play, warning against mistakes in personal relationships, is intended for young people. In addition, the production is aimed at paying attention to the observance of the moral principles of society.

The performance of the Shusha State Music and Drama Theatre was greeted in Ashgabat with enthusiastic applause and stormy applause. After the show, many spectators rushed to the stage to congratulate the Azerbaijani artists on their success on the Turkmen stage and take with them pleasant memories of watching.
