The Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater hosted a well-attended concert by German pianists Marcel Dorn and Stephan Weh. Marcel and Stephan are eccentric musicians. Both are from the small town of Allgau in Bavaria, both are about the same age.
At one time their pranks infuriated music teachers, and the joking students would probably have been expelled from music institutions if they weren't talented.
Marcel and Stephan are performing as a duo for 27 years. According to them, they have given 1,000 concerts in 100 countries, including Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. "Playing the piano is not difficult at all," the cheerful musicians claim, "you just have to press the right key at the right time." On the stage there is a screen on which the faces and hands of the pianists are broadcast.
Marcel and Stephan base their performances on interpretations of well-known pieces of music. They combine the popular hit "Happy birthday to you" with Strauss' "Waltz", Rossini's "Barber of Seville" or Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons". Their mischievousness in music is so elegant that it elicits a positive reaction from listeners.
At the end of their program, the pianists performed the fastest piece - Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee". And when the applause died down, the showmen from Germany organized a vote among the audience:
"What should be performed as an encore? Who is in favor of a slow piece? Who is for the fast one?" The fast one won.
And the audience enjoyed a medley to which Marcel and Stephan sang and danced. The audience was enchanted by the showmen. Under loud applause they were presented with small souvenirs - takhya, which the musicians immediately put on their heads. The concert was over, but the audience did not leave - everyone wanted to be photographed with the most cheerful musicians.
The concert was organized by the German Embassy in Turkmenistan, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the theater administration.
